A question for freethinkers,
and other like minded people. Do you ever see a thread with a title that has some reference to religion and think to yourself, wouldn't it be cool if there was a deity and there was a rapture type event tomorrow and the only people that were left behind were the people that thought of themselves as religious but had so little faith in their religion or their deity that they felt compelled to bring up their religion and defend their all powerful enity from the slings, arrows and words of people that accept reality without special effects?

1. i've always thought that, if there were a deity,
he would never take as his favorite the believer.
for only the skeptic seeks truly to understand his creation.

see, atheists can wax pious, too!

2. As PaulTillich said, "Faith without doubt is empty"
Or something like that. Might have been "Without doubt, there is no faith."

But that's the gist of what he was saying.

And since most people don't know who he is, he's one of the most famous Christian theologians of the 20th century. Taught at Union Seminary, along with Reinhold Niebuhr and others.

3. Good Post!
I stay away from religion as far as possible. I have found that those who proclaim their religion as a badge of honor are most likely warmongerors, crooks and liars. And they absolutely hate the poor. Whether it be the Taliban or Bush. Women come a close second in their hatred.

11. I think thats an overgeneralization -
I mean fundies annoy me as much as the next sane person but a lot of people are open about their beliefs without being wankers.

4. Yeah. I posted something to that extent a while back.

Basically saying wouldn't it be great if the rapture that all these fundies pray for turned out to be a cleansing that sucked them all up and sent them straight to hell? Leaving the rest of us decent folk to build a habitable world. You'd think an event preparing the world for the coming of Christ would remove all the bad seeds.

7. You Mean Those of Us Who Wish Peace?
We also feel the needy should be provided for and the sick should have medical care. The GOP abhors this. They want our tax dollars spent to provide benefits for corporate globalists, not the needy.

8. Yes , thought of it that way too & the worse case...
where there was a rapture deal and they all decided to stay and keep trying to "save" the others.

5. I Respect Religon
And those who believe in it.

But if I believed in a "God", I hope he and/or she convinces it's fun for me without having a "thousand letter" sentance with the same points and structure that I haven't heard from Dimbo on the 6 o'clock news.

Isn't "sin" supposed to be fun and can't one experience it for a while before you fold up and become a Freeper in immortal agony?

6. I've always wondered...
... since only about 100+K are supposed to be taken during the rapture how do we know it has not happened yet? In a world with well over 6 billion people would anyone notice the disappearance of a little over 100K.

10. No
What I really dislike are thread titles that don't give the reader any clue as to what the subject matter of the post is.

12. Ashcroft Should Be Informed.
You talk about a guy who makes the husbands of the ladies/girls in the Salem witchhunts seem liberal. You think he'll make it as one of the 144,000 earning heavenly entry?
