What scares you about me most?
i was gonna answer the other thread, but then realized that I could only answer what I *think* scares other people the most, which may or may not be correct.

Best way is to ask you, the others.

1. You quoted Paul Tillich.
/kidding.

I don't mind Tillich. Not my favorite Xian theologian. Mine's...oh, what's his name. John something. Still alive. Pluralist theologian. Crap! I'll never remember him.

4. Spong?
the episcopal guy?

Tillich's not necessarily high up on my list, though he was quite the randy guy, and I can respect that... but he had a huge effect (and not just in a negative-backlash kind of way like some theologians of the 20th century) on theology and ethical thinking, and I respect that utterly. But I have others that I prefer, too. Like Spong, Chung, Harrison, hell, even Cone though I often find myself pissed off by him, Bonnheoffer of course, and Rasmussen, Estey, Wellman, Barth...

5. Okay, I remembered. John Hick.
http://www.johnhick.org.uk/

Was it Tillich who had a relationship with and married his research assistant. I remember one of them did. Anyway, I like Hick quite a bit. He began as a fundamental evangelist and became a liberal pluralist. Probably the one theologian I agree with most often. He is a great "little 'c'" Christian, meaning he would identify himself as a christian (i.e. someone born into a christian theological society).

8. I was introduced to his work...
By a philosophy professor I had while going to community college. He was a former Baptist minister who left his position (and the church for the most part) when he realized he was more into philosophy than spiritualism. Smart guy. He wrote a book, "The Myth of Christian America," published by a Baptist publishing house, that assails the myth of America's Christian foundation. Look on Amazon, it's a great read.

3. off the top of my head
only thing I can think of is that there seems to be a read, dripping, thumbsdown splotch on the forehead of your avatar... and when doing the "cloud gazing" thing (imagining what the clouds - or in this case the red splotch - might be)... interesting imaginings emerge...

Unless you cut and paste your name there is always this constant nagging fear that you have typed the wrong number of r's. Were you a pirate in a past life or something?
