1. The first sixty pages or so

is socialist polemic, if you like that sort of thing; after that it's pretty wild in the way it sets up a facist US nation. Massacres of those that defy the Iron Heel are freakish; overall not London's best writing. However, it's written as a transcription of a non-writers journal, so I suppose that critique is moot anyway.

I liked it; I hope you do too.

2. It's one of those nice little things you learn from DU

I'd never heard of the book before I'd heard about it here on DU, and then it was suggested by several long-time friends. I hope it's not too painful of a read; I'm not really into dystopias.
