Any Godzilla Fans in the house?

snip.........

Directing Godzilla’s 50th Anniversary rampage will be Ryuhei Kitamura, the man responsible for the recent Japanese cult hits Versus, Alive, and Azumi. He also co-wrote the script for GFW along with his Alive and Azumi writing partner Isao Kiriyama. According to Kitamura, we can expect Godzilla to be stronger than he has ever been for “the final film for the generation” as he’s gone on the record saying wants Godzilla to be able to defeat a foe with a single blow

snip.......

Godzilla: Final Wars is shaping up to almost be a pseudo remake of Destroy All Monsters as the movie will boast the largest cast of monsters since that 1969 cinematic battle royal and like that movie it will also be set at various places all over the world. Among the cities to be attacked by monsters are New York City, Shanghai, Paris, and Sydney. An Australian newspaper reports that the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge will be specific targets.

Besides the King of the Monsters himself, here’s a roll call of the other famous daikaijus taking part in GFW:

MOTHRA – Needs no introduction. Apparently she will only appear in larva form just as she did in Destroy All Monsters. It has yet to be announced whether or not the twin fairies will be appearing in the film.

KING GHIDORAH - Arguably Godzilla’s most famous foe. Word is that this version of the three-headed space monster will be four-legged but this is unconfirmed. Whether its original outer space origins remain is also unknown.

RODAN – Everyone should be familiar with the world famous giant pteradon. Most likely won’t have the fire-breathing powers it had in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (II).

ANGILAS – The four-legged, spiky armadillo-like dinosaur that served as Godzilla’s first foe in Godzilla Raids Again but later became Big G’s sidekick in flicks like Godzilla vs. Gigan. Fans have been waiting for his return for some time now.

KAMAKARIS – The giant mantis that first appeared in Son of Godzilla. There was more than one in that movie but so far therehas yet to be any word as to whether there will be more than one in GFW.

KUMONGA – The gargantuan spider that first appeared in Son of Godzilla.

EBIRAH – The gigantic lobster-like monster that played a game of giant boulder volleyball with the King of the Monsters in Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster.

MINYA – The son of Godzilla that first appeared in, duh, Son of Godzilla. It remains to be seen whether or not this will be an updated version or the smoke ring blowing Pillsbury Dough Boy look-a-like most hardcore Godzilla fans despise. Rumor has it that Minya’s role will be minor as his demise will lead to Godzilla’s all-out worldwide rampage.

GOROSAURUS – Exactly what its name implies, a prehistoric dinosaur that battled King Kong in Toho’s lone Kong flick King Kong Escapes. Most well known for its infamous “jump kick” scene in Destroy All Monsters.

MANDA – The giant sea snake that first appeared battling a super powered submarine in Toho’s Atragon. Probably most remembered for coiling around a New York overpass in Destroy All Monsters.

GIGAN – Cyclopean cyborg monster with hooks for hands and a buzzsaw belly. Competed in tag team matches against Godzilla in Godzilla vs. Gigan and again in Godzilla vs. Megalon. Currently unknown as to whether or not the monster will stay a cyborg in the new film or if it’s outer space origins will be done away with.

KING SEESAR – Giant two-legged lion monster whose only appearance was helping to fight Mechagodzilla in Godzilla vs. the Cosmic Monster. In that movie King Seesar was a protective deity. Whether it will maintain its god-like status remains to be seen.

MONSTER X – The identity of this monster remains top secret. Wild rumors have swirled involving it being a “mummified” monster, the original 1954 Godzilla, or a Chinese “Fire Dragon”, and even Gamera. It is not the same Monster X (Jiger) that once fought Gamera.

The line-up is said to include anywhere from 10 to 16 monsters so there are also rumors of there possibly being other monsters in the film not already announced. Other notable Godzilla friends and foes not yet named include Titanosaurus, Megalon, Mechagodzilla, Jet Jaguar, Hedorah (Smog Monster), Gabera, Baragon, Varan, Biollante, Battra, Space Godzilla, Destroyer, Orga, and Megaguirus.

BTW, I have Kitamura's "Versus" on DVD. It's a zombie/martial arts film and it totally kicks serious ass. Rent it or buy it, if you get the chance.

6. Everyone hated the Brodderick Godzilla ...

But honestly, it was by far the best Godzilla movie I've ever seen. Sorry, but these are Monster movies. They're all about gnarly creatures, destruction and violence.

If Japan is making another Godzilla, I hope they have the good sense to update they're monsters and make them look a LOT cooler. The men in rubber suits just don't cut it anymore.

8. Another 'zilla fan here!
I've seen all the films. I hate Minya, love Jet Jaguar. I wish he were in the film.
I even made a short godzilla film in one of my multimedia classes (that project was the most fun for me while I was in college), no one wanted to follow me after I presented it to the class.
