i'm nearly computer illiterate so...

i need help. i tried to upload a personal avatar, and have a box with a small x in it. what did i do wrong?

It's a minimalist, go-your-own-way kind of thing.

on the web such as www.photobucket.com then all you need to do is point to that sites URL that it gives you.

That it sometimes takes a while for the image to show up. Probably has to do with its location being recognized by all parts of the program they use to run the board. You might try posting your question in the 'Bugs' forum, though -- maybe somebody can shed some light on why it hasn't shown up yet.

I think go ahead and check "Delete all offline content." (Nothing bad will happen, I promise.) I think this was all it took to get mine to show up.

There are two ways to have an avatar, uploading from your
computer or to use "images" link.

Which did you use?

You should see your image in the right hand side in a forms box.

For example, this one is lincoln.gif

Also make sure you are trying to upload the right size. They
have limited on the size of the image, as well as make
sure it's the right format, say .gif, .jpg or whatever they take.

Probably 64x64 pixels is ok for their images and if it's type .gif
odds are you are ok.

If none of this works (are you a donor, upload is turned off for
me but I haven't given any $$ to DU) try just using one of their
images available and make sure that works.

There is no image displaying here (that's what the x and nothing actually means) so there is nothing wrong with your web browser
or display or any of the below advice.

Either the image wasn't saved with "update" or the image is
wrong so it cannot bve uploaded (by the above) or final case,
upload is disabled by DU admins.
