May 16, 1960: The industry newspaper "Billboard" reported that Detroit-based songwriter Berry Gordy Jr. was working on starting his own record label. Eventually, he wound up with three labels (Gordy, Motown, and Tamla), which dominated the charts throughout the decade.

I grew up listening to the Motown sound. The Drifters, Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, the Four Tops, Smokey Robinson,class acts all.
