It's Grammy time as the supposed best records and artists of 1962 are
so honored (several very strange choices here). Among the winners:

RECORD OF THE YEAR : I Left My Heart In San Francisco - Tony Bennett
ALBUM OF THE YEAR : The First Family - Vaughn Meader
SONG OF THE YEAR : What Kind Of Fool Am I (Newley/Bricusse)
BEST NEW ARTIST OF 1962 : Robert Goulet
BEST MALE VOCAL : I Left My Heart in San Francisco - Tony Bennett
BEST FEMALE VOCAL : Swings Brightly With Nelson - Ella Fitzgerald
BEST VOCAL GROUP RECORD : If I Had a Hammer - Peter, Paul and Mary
BEST ROCK & ROLL RECORDING : Alley Cat - Bent Fabric
BEST R&B RECORDING : I Can't Stop Loving You - Ray Charles
BEST JAZZ PERFORMANCE : Desafinado - Stan Getz
BEST ORIGINAL JAZZ COMPOSITION : Cast Your Fate to the Wind
BEST C&W RECORDING - Funny Way of Laughin' - Burl Ives
BEST FOLK RECORDING - If I Had a Hammer - Peter, Paul and Mary
BEST ORIGINAL CAST ALBUM - No Strings (Richard Rodgers)
BEST COMEDY PERFORMANCE : The First Family - Vaughn Meader

2. It Is Hilarious...
to look back at who won the awards in the 60's. Even in '68, when the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and the whole classic rock pantheon were putting out records, Top 40 stations were just as likely to feature Nancy Sinatra or Bobby Goldsboro. And nobody had ever heard of obscure bands like Pink Floyd or the Grateful Dead.
