Need help from computer-savvy DUers.

Something called a "Trojan horse" -- plus some other crap -- has been trying to attack my computer all day. So far my security system has been effective in blocking it, but the bastard keeps coming up.

I've only had home internet service since March; while there have been previous hacking attempts on my computer (I didn't get Sasser-ized, though), this is the first time I've been bombarded like this, and I know I need to update my security (Norton 2002). What's the most effective internet security system out there? Thanks.

I am running Sygate Firewall and get about 20 attacks a day easily. This in conjunction with Norton's I have managed to remain in tact.

and get rid of Norton (it's bloatware!) and get Anti Vir, they're both FREE and work great!

Google that up, it's a nice free firewall program.

The free ZoneAlarm works as well.

I'm ditching Norton, especially now that they have their product activation crap in place.

There's a free antivirus out there too, AVG I think it is...

PCPitstop and they happened to have an Anti_virus thread there..check it out.

Compare the "attacker's" ip number to your own ip number. If they are close, it's your isp. Your isp tries to communicate with your computer for bandwidth optimization. Norton sees this as an attack.

I like zone alarm. It is a nice easy to use software based firewall. If you don't learn how to configure it properly though, you might end up preventing yourself from being able to use all the functionality of some programs or services on your computer or network.

Of course now, you really need layers of protection if you have a broadband connection. You really should have some kind of firewall, antivirus software, spyware blockers and removal tools and lastly a pop up blocker.

I use Zone Alarm Pro, Spybot search and destroy, spyware blaster and Computer Associates antivirus.

It's a good idea to support software writers with donations for freeware or shareware too. Some of these people provide us with invaluable services... and while your at it send a contribution in to this forum if you haven't already, because computer advice has value too!

Will I need the same tools, or different ones?

Most of the attacks are on broadband "always on" connections.
