I was terminated today!!!!!!!!...................
After 120 of lay-off from my archaeology job, I was called by Dave, my former supervisor, today and was told that since I crossed the 120-day boundary, I had to be moved from lay-off to terminated status. Dave told me that the lay-off was the direct result of the Federal and State governments shifting $ away from issues like infrastructure towards more "global" (WAR) concerns.

I'm not looking for any sympathy here, I just want to give a shout-out to all the other unemployed DU'ers who are sweating it out trying to keep their bills paid and food on the table. We gotta keep the faith and vote this asshole out of office in November, he's hurting us all.

Thanks for nothing, Dubya.

3. My hubby has been unemployed since June 30, 2003
because of state budget cuts and more specifically underfunding NCLB. He worked for the Illinois State Board of Education and was to be responsible for the states data server that tracked the children regarding NCLB.

Thanks for nothing, Dubya.

9. Same here - I'm so sorry
Edited on Mon May-17-04 11:58 AM by Lindacooks
Job loss directly caused by budget cuts by Repukes aimed at cutting programs which help women and children. Some 'compassionate conservativism', huh?

My dh did just get a job, but I don't think we'll ever recover from the year of stress without most of our income.

Bush* and ALL repukes have GOT TO GO.

6. I'm sorry for that
Sorry you lost your job, and sorry that they are shifting money away from infrastructure (which is exactly where we NEED to be putting it) and into the death machine.

He's outta here. We will kick his ass back to Texas.

7. What a crock! The government is getting bigger and bigger
and the whole focus is WAR and big corporates.

Areas of environment, arts and science, and humane endeavors are being tossed by the wayside.

11. You may not be looking for sympathy
but here you will find it anyway! Good luck searching for your new job. Sounds like you have an interesting career. Perhaps you could travel to another country that is more sane to work.

19. I'm sorry, and I DO understand.
I lost my job almost a year ago--and I've been freelancing to generate some cash ever since. This shit is directly related to that idiot in the White House and we ARE gonna boot his butt out of there this November. Keep the faith on that!

As for the job loss, please--consider treating this like a death or any other serious loss in life. Depression is VERY common and please do not just ignore it. Job loss has a huge impact on self image plus just generally screws up everything that ties to money. THAT is gonna elevate your stress level--it is unavoidable. Take care of YOU and let everyone help you when it is a bad day.

If you start to have problems sleeping thru the night or going to sleep, if you feel angry more often over stuff that never used to rattle you, or if you start to question why you are even getting out of bed be aware that you are not alone!

This morning, I was feeling really low--wondering how I'm gonna feed everyone on about $50 this week--feeling paniced about what I'll do until I get payment on a contract I just finished. I came to DU to escape for a bit and found that one of my DU brothers or sisters had donated in my name...

We can all get thru this, and we will. Hugs to you, and feel free to PM me if you want to vent.

Laura
