Found new baby kitten - eyes not open yet!
I found it outside our business - all white - adorable! She is struggling - I got bottles and kitty formula - I hope she survives!

3. Make sure she is warm enough
a heating pad on low should do it.

17. Fold a towel in fourths..put the heating pad UNDER the towel
..that way it can stay warm, but not get too hot..

14. and ask the vet explain kitty potty needs to you
cat milk in is good so long as cat pee comes out. In very young kittens, the mother is the one to stimulate this activity. You might want to use the corner of a damp paper towel for this rather than the methoc the momma cats use.

6. also...
keep an eye out where you found her for a mama cat. Sometimes they're in the process of moving a brood from one place to another. She may've been hoping to come back for the baby.

11. Something that works better than nursing bottles are
disposable syringes - with the need removed of course. I always mix the formula as needed with warm water and then fill the syringe. If you just put it in her little mouth and push gently, she will get more than with a nursing bottle.

26. You are right - those syringes work like a charm!
The last time, I got the ones for feeding medicine to babies - they have a plastic cap for the tip so you can take them when you go out.

10. Be sure
...to get the kitten milk replacement that has COLUSTRUM. It's made by Farnam Pet Products and is sold under the name 'Just Born'.

This is tragic topic for me. I raised a kitten from birth last year (DOB 05-08-03 at 1:30pm) that was left by a wild cat I feed (and have tried to tame to no avail) under the bushes by my computer room. I took her in, raised her under a lamp and succeded past all expectations. In September we had the Feline Leukemia test done and it came back positive. We tested again in October, hoping for a false positive. She tested positive again. She died Christmas Eve of pneumonia - and trust me - we did EVERYTHING possible to save her. I buried her Christmas day. I'm still completely destroyed by losing her, and I apologize for bringing this dark cloud into what should normally be a happy occasion. But, the vet believed that she did so well initially because of the colostrum.

Don't get me started on her personality - she was truly the most amazing animal I've ever owned. And I'm getting choked up now so I better stop while I'm ahead.

She would never have experienced it if it wasn't for you.

27. Poor Kitty
Every animal we lose is precious. I have lost so many and none can be replaced. The only happiness in life comes from adopting more. Hope you have lots of furry love in your life.

22. UPDATE - Just got back from the Vet...
Good News: She is strong, has taken formula and peed and pooped for me so far. She is a fighter with a loud meow. She weighs 4 oz. Dr. thinks she is about 4 or 5 days old.

Bad News: She has maggots. After I had a chance to feed her and really look her over, I noticed some goopy stuff in her fur and found she was covered with maggots. She had a small cut on the back of her head and I think that is where they started. There are some in her ears and he was able to put some stuff in them, but the worst thing is they are in her left eye. He doesn't know that he can do anything right now so I'm just wiping them out manually as they come up. We are hoping she hasn't lost the eye.

I got her pretty clean and her ears seem to have grey underneath instead of pink like a regular white cat.....

Other than that he said to keep doing what I'm doing.

23. She may be siamese.. The color comes in around ten days
The vet thought that Willie might be blind , but he sees fine.. His whole face was one giant bugger..eyes, nose a solid "scab"..He too, was infested, but he came out fine..Weighs about 20 lb now..

The eye meds will probably take care of it.. A warm washcloth with a bit of mineral oil, can help the eyes open..(just be gentle)..They are probably due to open anyway..

Baby kittens are TOUGH !!!

32. Dilute it with water -
I ordered some terramycin from Fosters and Smith online. The best stuff I've used is Vetropolycin - available from your vet.

34. beautiful Kitties...you should massage the little one after feeding.
It keeps their bowels working.......the mother cat licks and turns the kittens after feeding. Without the mother cat around you'll have to do this.

35. UPDATE: She seems a bit weaker this morning..
She had diareha(sp) overnight so I'm going to go to smaller amounts of formula and maybe thicken it with baby rice cereal. The eye is more open this morning and it is definitely gone. There are still some maggots in there but I'm going to try the diluted hydrogen peroxide solution. She has a new mom in the form of our 124 lb. Golden Retriever. Bailey comes to the basket at the first sound of a cry from her and gladly cleans her after she eats. He is so sweet and gentle.

36. Instead of rice, try
egg mixed into the formula. But, first you may want to get some pedialyte. It's expensive, but it works restoring electrolytes lost due to dehydration. Try to hydrate her as often as possible.

I'll be saying some prayers.

38. Thanks so much for your help!
I used the hydr. peroxide in the eye socket and it did help some, I still haven't been able to get all of them out of there. Is it ok to go ahead and put some anti bacterial ointment on it?

I will get the pedialyte and try that too.

Thanks!!
