Brian Wilson putting out a new album
Guest star albums can really, REALLY suck, but this at least will have some of his Andy Paley collaborations from a few years ago.

From NME:

BRIAN WILSON is teaming up with a host of rock legends for his first solo album of new material in six years.

The Beach Boys genius will release 'Gettin' In Over My Head' on June 22 in the US, which features collaborations with Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Elton John and 'Smile' collaborator Van Dyke Parks.

Also appearing on the album, will be the duet 'Soul Searchin' featuring Wilson's late brother and fellow Beach Boy Carl. Brian added his vocals to an existing track to complete the song.

Tracks expected to appear on the record include 'City Blues', 'Desert Drive', 'How Can We Still Be Dancin'?', 'The Waltz' and 'A Friend Like You'.

According to Rolling Stone, Wilson will be debuting songs from 'Gettin' In Over My Head' on a European tour this summer.

1. What a busy guy!
Along with the long-awaited release of 'Smile' this fall, it looks like this is Brian Wilson's year. I wish I could have seen his Smile concert in England, I heard it was phenomenal.

2. I got a bootleg of that--it was amazingly well-performed
Not much changed from the snippets that have been around. Not "the ultimate pop album" or anything like that, but pretty damn good.

14. I don't know if you saw my post this weekend
I called Frank Holmes the other day. He was the one who did the artwork for the Smile album. He was a great guy to talk to and he is sending me the artwork soon.
I never liked the Beach Boys until 5 years ago. I now know why everyone did. Brian was/is a great talent and I kick myself in the ass for not liking him before.

7. Sorry to piss on the twitching corpse of a rock god...
...but the best thing Brian Wilson did was inspire Barenaked Ladies.

I just never got the whole Beach Boys thing...

8. No accounting for tastes
I have friends who would say the same, except they'd replace "Barenaked Ladies" with "Sonic Youth."

9. Like what you like.
Life's too short.

Sorry to have stumbled into yet another "your favorite musician sucks" thread.

10. Did it start as a "Your Favorite Musician Sucks" thread?
What a weird hijacking--especially given the Gilmour circa 1978 (?)photo.

12. Actually about 1971...
I need to find a current pic of Gilmour... the change is shocking.

13. He looks like a middle-aged Englishman
Same as Jagger, McCartney, etc. And they all look like bankers settling down to retire.

11. That wasn't my intention...
I did not intend to hijack this thread or turn it into a "your favorite musician sucks" thread...

I guess I stated my opinion in rather coarse terms and ignited a seemingly good natured mini-flame war.

For the Record: I respect Brain Wilson and his accomplishments. I do not personally enjoy his music, but I can see why he is revered by many whose opinions I respect...
