Atkins-friendly Coke?
Edited on Mon May-17-04 03:12 PM by mac56
Lower-carb Coke on the way

Coca-Cola Co. said Monday it will launch a soft-drink with half the carbohydrates of traditional colas this summer, as the world's largest soft-drink firm looks to capitalize on the low-carb diet craze.

A Coca-Cola spokesman would not give specific dates for the roll-out of "Coca-Cola C2", but said it would appear in stores across the US before the planned late-summer launch of "Pepsi Edge" low-calorie cola.

DR has no carbs, and uses Splenda sweetner.

edit: Plus DR is much less than Coke.

Have you tried the Diet Rite white grape? Yummy! There's a raspberry flavor too I think.

2. If you want to drink tons of soda, you are not going to be fit

People should accept this and move on, in one direction or the other. Thse crazy halfway products are just ways to make money off those who think eating right goes no furhter than buying products marked "low carb" or "low fat".

Well, some words... How much will this ripoff cost? Isn't diet coke good enough? Why drink it? It stains the teeth and the acidicness of the drink doesn't help either...

I rarely drink the stuff so I could technically care less. Oops, I'm a mouth of legs, I care about everything. :D

8. You know..
Oddly enough, water has ALWAYS been carb free and so much better for you. This just sounds as gimmicky as the rest of the "low carb" stuff. Like "low carb" salad dressing where the "original" version only has 1 carb to begin with. But it costs 3 times as much.

10. Deprivation diets DON'T WORK.
My mother is a nutritionist and can rail for hours about how destructive the Atkins diet is.

If you want to be fit,
-eat a balanced, sensible diet of foods that are good for you.
-exercise regularly
-take a multivitamin
-get enough sleep.

It isn't rocket science. Atkins is a cash-in on the American culture of the quick fix. GRR.

Where's Susan Powter when we need her?

11. IF this has half the carbs because it has half the corn syrup
...and they don't try to make up for it with artificial sweeteners, then perhaps this might be a good thing, from a taste standpoint. I rarely drink soda -- it's almost always too sweet. (I do suspect it'll have "sugar alcohols" or Splenda or whatever else Atkins stuff is supposed to have in it.)

I remember years ago, Snapple had a light line -- it simply had less corn syrup. No artificial sweeteners. It was less sweet, less syrupy (and maybe more juice as well). I really liked the stuff. Now, they've got "diet Snapple" with chemicals.
