Poll question: What is Your favorite Van Morrison tune?
Was driving home from work the other day and the local "classic rock" station played five of his tunes. I have included them here, but it's really hard to limit this to just those five.

14. "Real Real Gone"
A bright, poppy tune with wonderful horn accompaniment and a quiet undertone of melancholy. An ovelooked gem from 1990. Like Bruce Springsteen said: "How come every couple of years, Van Morrison releases a new album, and every time, it's great, and every time, nobody notices?"

25. Oh, man! Love them all.
But part of my courtship with the beautiful Dr. DemoTex was a call to a WGST (when it was still at Georgia Tech) DJ to play "Brown-Eyed Girl," dedicated to my young brown-eyed love. That was over 30 years ago my friends.

28. Madame George and...
1960s - Madame George, but the whole Astral Weeks album is absolutely amazing. But so's the Moondance album. And there's always "Gloria."
This is too hard.
1970s - Forget it, impossible. Wild Nights, Jackie Wilson Said, Tupelo Honey, St. Dominic's Preview, Domino, I'll Be Your Lover Too, Autumn Song, The entire experience of Veedon Fleece, Take it Where You Find It, the glorious entirety of Into The Music.
1980s - In The Garden, Cleaning Windows. Van slows down a bit in this decade, doesn't he?
1990s - Hymns to the Silence, Real Real Gone, In the Days Before Rock and Roll, The Healing Game, Too Long in Exile.
2000s - Nothing yet, but I love his version of St. James Infirmary, even if it's not quite as haunting as a version I once heard by Sidney Bechet.
Please stop me somebody! Sorry folks, but I worship at the altar of Van and don't know when to give it up.

31. Yes, the most rapturous lyric ever written
And the love that loves the love that loves the love that loves the love that loves to love the love that loves to love the love that loves.

You sorta have to hear it with the music.

32. "And It Stoned Me"
Edited on Mon May-17-04 10:38 PM by mac56
Love that song.

Half a mile from the county fair, and the rain came pouring down
Me and Billy standing there with a silver half a crown
Hands full of fishing gear, and the tackle on our backs
We just stood there getting wet, with our backs against the fence

Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Oh, the water
Let it run all over me

And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like Jelly Roll
And it stoned me
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like going home
And it stoned me

And the rain let up, and the sun came out, we were getting dry
Almost glad a pickup truck nearly passed us by
So we jumped right in and the driver grinned and he dropped us up the road
We looked at the swim, and we jumped right in not to mention fishing poles

On the way back home we sang a song, but our throats were getting dry
Then we saw the man from across the road with the sunshine in his eyes
Well he lived all alone in his own little home with a great big gallon jar
There were bottles too, one for me and you, and he said "Hey there you are"
