Guys: Anybody use a straight razor to shave?
I know it's a lot more difficult--and hazardous--but is it the closest shave you can get, or just as good as using a cartridge?

1. No. However...
One of the most satisfying things in the world is a barber shop shave.
Do they do that anymore?

4. Good question
I had a barber a few years ago that would clean up my nape with a straight razor and warm cream, but I don't know if he did faces. With liability these days, I tend to doubt it...

11. My oldest brother was a barber.
Not for long, but for a few years. The straight razor is safe when used correctly. Probably most guys who had a barber shave them had a lot less cuts than those who shave themselves.
My daughters asked me to quit shaving a few years ago. They saw a photo of their g-g-grandfather, with a full beard, and wanted me to grow one. I do not miss shaving at all.

6. Very few now days...
I talked my Barber about this and he said he would rather not do shaves. I takes too much of his time and not enough profit. He prefers haircuts.

14. I was told...
years ago, by my Barber, that he didn't shave anyone, anymore, or use the razor, because of Aids. This was in the late eighties.

2. I'm a girl who has used a straight razor to shave her legs
I enjoyed it actually, only nicked myself a bit. Didn't seem difficult or hazardous. I also used a swiss army knife once, though, if that explains anything -- I guess I like to live on the edge !

3. Noooo way won't touch that....

Doing that is best left to a barber. I use the Gillete Sensor and it works pretty well. Shave with the grain then against. I don't like the Mach3 myself cuz the razor head is too big and won't shave the mustache area well. New technology in shaving has come a long way and I would suppose there is not much of a difference.

8. God no!
My skin can't even take a safety razor, I usually use an electric.

10. I have been using one for 30 years now...
It is still the best shave ever...when I shave.
Cuts have been very few and far between.
I have tried cartridge and electric - not as good for me and didn't really like either one.

13. I formerly used one. It gives a great shave,
but I had to use those brushes that would make my whiskers stand up before shaving.

I quit using it after I got a dog who likes to jump up on me. :scared:
