UPDATED: 9:35 am CDT May 17, 2004

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Allegedly eating in the aisles of the grocery store has left a north Texas man facing hefty fines.Over the weekend, an undercover officer caught the man allegedly eating a bag of shrimp at a Euless Albertson's that he didn't pay for.

According to Euless Municipal Court records the man finished the bag of shrimp, paid for his other items and then left the store.

The man now reportedly faces a $277 fine after being issued a citation for theft under $50.

It is unclear how much shrimp the man ingested, but officials said the shrimp cost only $10.99 per pound.

1. OMG....
that could be my Dad.

On his deathbed, my Dad will talk about the shrimp-feasts he's had.

Edited on Tue May-18-04 05:51 AM by SoCalDem
and sometimes people would say.. "Oh..charge me for the apple/pear/cherries/banana/orange/grapes I ate while shopping".. We used to charge $1 unless they brought one up for us to weigh.. No one ever complained, but when they got home and saw the charge, I bet they thought twice about dooing it again

5. I have NEVER understood
eating food in a grocery store not yet paid for. I was raised to understand it wasn't mine until after going through the check-out line and forking over the cash.

6. not to mention cleanliness
Apples and oranges, etc., need to be washed before eating.

Hands are dirty in a grocery store from touching all the common use items like door handles, etc.

And shrimp. Doesn't that need to be cooked?

7. Yep, me, too
If it's something from abag or box, that isn't so bad. But I get pissed off when I see assholes walking around eting grapes and other things that are supposed to be weighed. Nothing but f-ing thieves.

8. Yep...I agree
I see folks eating those Branches candy bits (the ones individually wrapped in the bins) all the time. My first thought is:
"What a low-class Human Being"....

9. I used to be the same but my GF changed my mind.......
I don't think that there's anything wrong with picking up a bottle of chilled Coke on the way into the store and drinking it while you shop, provided you remember to pay for it at the end.

We've never had any problem with this, although some of the less "intellectually gifted" cashiers do sometimes need to think about it for a minute before they understand why we're paying for empty bottles...

However, stuff that needs to be weighed is verboten and shouldn't be eaten until weighed and paid.
