Biggest time-suck of a video/computer game that you possess
You know, the game that you almost avoid plugging into the unit because you know as soon as you turn on the unit you're not going to be moving from your seat for the next few hours.

For me it's Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition for Xbox. I bought a Xbox last month almost exclusively because of it's upcoming crop of open-ended RPG's and I don't know how anything else is going to surpass the freedom this game offers you to do whatever you bloody want to outside of or within the main storyline.

Must admit, playing the game as a morally conflicted wandering pilgrim probably isn't the most exciting approach to take but damn if wandering the earth like Cain in Kung Fu and helping people isn't oddly addictive.

5. Halo
Great way to eat up untold hours of your life.

Another good one is The Suffering. Creepy as all hell and entertaining to boot. You can be a complete asshole, or attempt to have some redeeming qualities.

Played Morrowind on the PC, too damned frustrating. You spend entirely too much time going back and forth to places you've already been just to complete insignificant tasks.

21. Re: walking around in Morrowind
That does seems to be the biggest complaint I hear in terms of that game. Hasn't really started to bother me though as I always find ways to diverge on side paths between pt. A and pt. B.

I got Halo at the same time as Morrowind and Halo was probably a bigger time suck as it's been one of very few games that I played almost non-stop from the beginning till I reached the conclusion.

28. Variations when playing Halo
It's the best shooter ever made.

I'm trying to complete the game using just the pistol in the Heroic level.

When I run out of ammo, I run around and whack everything with the gun. I've found hunters are easier to kill this way. I'm up to the flood, where things are going to get hairy.

My friends and I hooked up 4 XBox's onto 4 TV's, in 4 different rooms of my friends house, and had 16 people playing Halo. We played literally ALL night. The last few there (including me) played from 8:00PM until 6:30AM. It was alot of fun though.

We never beat it (made a few incorrect choices that resulted in the She killing herself, so we decided not to bother). But GODDAMN was it fucking fun.

Easily one of the most enjoyable (and hardest) RPGs, after Tactics Ogre.

Edited on Tue May-18-04 02:57 PM by Mayberry Machiavelli
other games, I don't really consider it a "waste" of time because I really have had so much enjoyment, particularly playing team games with my friends online against others, and against my friends. In fact, they just now patched it again and I'm probably going to start playing it again.

Plus you can save the replays of your matches, and review and learn a lot about your own and your opponent's strategies. I downloaded many games of awesome players and improved greatly. Korea has had (don't know if they still do) a big pro circuit of Starcraft/Broodwar with big money prizes and many, many AWESOME players who are "masters" or "gosu" and their replays are inspiring.

I know it sounds geeky to talk about studying game replays, but that is how games like chess became "classics"--by having recorded games that could be studied, the game advances through its own "literature".

42. SC Ghost is a shooter game, in a completely different genre from
Starcraft and Broodwar, which are RTS (real time strategy) games. That's why I was so disappointed that Blizzard (the software company) chose to make a shooter rather than a true sequel to SC/BW. He has great taste, SC/BW is a great game.

If he's ever looking for an opponent or partner, send me an email through DU. I think my online account has become inactive since I haven't used it in so long but I will reactivate, just haven't decided what my new userID will be. Mayberry Machiavelli is too long I think, LOL.

Is the biggest time-suck for me. I have literally played it all day. Stop for supper, play all evening.

The Sims hits me the same way. Can't wait for Sims 2 (release date 8/31/04!!)

57. Unreal Tournament
From 1999 to the present day I've played it on a Mac performa 200 (with 300mhz upgrade card and voodoo 3) to my current AMD XP system. I've gone through about 5 mice, and just recently ruined my intellimouse explorer 3.0. When I looked at it closely, I see that I have worn down the surfaces on the buttons. On a previous keyboard that had textured keys, the ones I used for movement were perfectly smooth.

I can't quit. I hope the new Doom or the next Quake can save me. Sorta.

61. Europa Universalis II
Kind of obscure, but I got ridiculously addicted to that game. Its another empire builder, kind of real-time, kind of turn based. I eventually had to put it away because I could NOT stop playing.
I also get kind of addicted to football games, especially college. Love running the wishbone!!!

65. Populus 3: The Beginning
Incredibly addictive. Simple yet beautiful graphics and animation.
You control a female shaman and her tribe of braves, who build and upgrade huts, including special training huts that turn simple braves into warriors, spies which can disguise themselves as enemy braves, fire warriors that shoot fireballs a considerable distance, and, most important of all, preachers, who can convert enemy tribesman. After several hours of play I learned that the best way to beat the enemy tribes was to train as many preachers as possible and have them attack en masse, converting all of an enemy tribe so that they destroy their former huts and shaman. As an real life, the key to victory is winning the hearts and minds of the enemy. I should send a copy to the White House.

68. Civ2 and Final Fantasy:Tactics
Edited on Tue May-18-04 11:17 PM by chenGOD
I'm sure anyone who's ever played any version of Civilization knows how much of a time suck that is. Sit down 8:00 pm look up next, it's 6:30 in the morning and you're still going "just one more turn"...

Final Fantasy:Tactics-try and max level all the different type of characters, and finish the game as each type. Zounds and gadzooks.

Honourable mention:GTA3 and Vice City. The actual game was't too hard, but the driving around causing mayhem and destruction part...

81. Halo
I remember when I faced off the Flood at 2 am..on a worknight :wow: and just NOT wanting to stop. Also KOTOR when I fought Darth Malak (right before Revan's past was revealed), again a 2am jedifeast, Splinter Cell and Pandora Tomorrow. I haven't played GTA for a while, but I should rent it again soon.

Now I'm waiting for Sudeki, Doom III, the EA football and soccer games on Xbox Live--finally!--Driv3r if they ever finish it, and of course Halo 2. Forza Motorsport is also a new title coming out for Xbox. Mechassault 2 I think will be doe after Christmas.

86. A few that have already been mentioned...
Morrowind, Knights of the Old Republic, Civ 3, and Call of Duty have all been big time-suckers for me.

Right now it's Champions of Norrath, the buggiest damn game I've ever played. It's still fun, though.
