1. I don't think he was shitcanned. I thought he quit to do other stuff not
unlike every other cast member that's been on the show.

6. That's not important....
What's important is that I will never have to see his corpsing ass on SNL ever again! (Unless he ends up becoming big in movies and ends up hosting. :scared:)

Now comes the speculation: Will WU stay with the two-anchor format, or go back to one anchor?

I was happier when Chris Kitan(sp???) left, though.

BTW, your link doesn't work.

5. Jeeze, what did Fallon ever do to you?
I've heard of disliking a performer, but isn't this a little extreme?

I'm not all that fond of Eric Clapton's music, for instance, but I still think he's an excellent musician.

8. He was put in a spot he should never have been put in
Weekend Update Anchor. That role is to be played as staright as possible, you let the news stories, quips, and quirky characters do the crazy stuff. It's not a role where you should get away with corpsing during every damn episode. Hell, the only reason he got picked for that spot is because all the teenyboppers and the younger set are gaga over his looks.

12. I thought he was pretty good ...
... but tastes vary. The pretty-boy looks didn't sway me a bit, either. I also think Rachel Dratch is the best of the (all excellent) female players, but she always plays the frump.

Weekend Update has usually been helmed by players who were either out of their depth (Norm MacDonald, IMO) or too-hip-for-the-room (Dennis Miller). Tina Fay really revitalized the writing, and her choice of Jimmy Fallon for WU co-anchor worked well.

I don't know what it is about SNL. It was supposedly the best in the late 1980s, and I could scarcely stand the ensemble then. It seemed as though Phil Hartman was the only player who had caught on that acting was about the audience, not the actor; and Victoria Jackson, hated by millions, the only player who wasn't as smug as W.

The recent ensembles have been the best since the Not Ready For Prime Time Players. And I can remember eagerly waiting for -- and watching -- the first episode almost 30 years ago.

11. There have been worse in the role
Edited on Tue May-18-04 04:55 PM by lunabush
sometimes he was funny, mostly not. That is typical of SNL - some of the folks have simply sucked. I would, though. like to see only Tina do Update.

BTW, don't think shit-canned works - he quit - to most likely make really bad movies that have 7 or 8 laughs that all appear in the trailers, the rest of it being horrendously bad shit for which the public will love him for.

"Though series helmer Lorne Michaels had hoped Fallon, 29, would renew his contract, Peacock President Jeff Zucker said Monday that Fallon had made it clear that he planned to move on, and that he wished the comedian the best in future ventures."
