12. That's rich...I got my Master's from Tech. but my Ph.D. will be
from A&M, I am hoping in the near future, like next semester. I never made it to any games out there, but really miss Spanky's burgers and the Saigon Cafe.

and a little to the right, in that block of stores. Fantastic garlic beef with scallops, very spicy.

21. Bummer...although One Guy has pretty decent calzone
a former girlfriend introduced me to it, and it really was enjoyable. Is the East Indian restaurant still there? It should be farther down the street from One Guy.

Nothing like walking out your front door at 5:30AM to walk up to campus, taking a deep breath and barfing your brains out.

35. What
You can not handle a little Feed lot smell. That is what you get, you live in a state that has a big part in the cattle market. What is even lovelier is when it rains and the wind blows out of the East. Man it makes me glad I do not have to work in that industry.

37. Oh yeah, the mud showers, how could I forget?
and to top it all off, the predictable flooding on University Ave., everytime there is any appreciable rainfall. Nothing like wading to campus through 6 or 7 inches of water (and, in addition, the occasional peice of floating sewage, just to make it interesting). and no, I don't like au d' feedlot first thing in the morning. I was quite grateful that my office in Holden Hall was in the Poli. Sci. corridor, on the inside row with no windows.

9. Heh -- for a more do-it-yourself approach
In XP, open up a console window (usually Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Command Prompt) and type 'ipconfig' and hit Enter.

Your ip address is passed on every internet connection you make. It has to be. That's how the internet knows how to get what you want to your computer. When you pull up a web page, other information is passed such as the browser you're using, the referrer (where you came from), etc.

18. You betcha, though I am not terribly happy with it...
I have Norton Internet Security, in training. It catches most of the stuff that tries to intrude, but has difficulty in deleting the abberrant files. It doesn't really matter that they are still there because they cannot do anything.

slowed eveything down. As long as I was just using the Norton Antivirus software, everything was great, it is only since I installed Internet Security that things have gone a'cropper.

19. One of the full-time faculty at my institution was just placed on...
the College Conservatives hate list, so I know they are looking. I was surprised that I didn't end up on it as well. I usually keep my politics out of the classroom, I really do, but since I was an invited speaker at one of the marriage rights rallies back in February, I have been informed that I am under scrutiny.

22. Hapenned to a friend of mine
Sociology prof at a nearyby college. He organized and hosted a discussion on Islamic fundamentalism and anger towards the U.S. shortly after the U.S. invaded Afghanistan. A local car dealership owner took out a full page ad in the local newspaper basically calling my friend and the whole faculty at his college "liberal elistists" and the old "they hate America" thing. My friend considered sueing the moran but decided it wasn't worth his time.

23. I think I may have heard about that through the grapevine...
I do remember writing a letter of support to a prof. at (I think) the University of Georgia, back in '01. As I recall, he was an Afghan by birth, but had become a US citizen a long time before '01. He was attacked for trying to explain, rationally, the Islamic faith, and trying to differentiate all flavors of religious fundamentalist types. He may as well have been talking to a brick for all the good it did him. Interesting that your friend got in trouble for the class. Sociologists have an uncanny knack for getting themselves in trouble. Guess it comes with the territory (If all sociologists have as big a mouth as I do, it explains a lot).

Are youone of those Goddammed left wing liberal whackos who're trying to subvert American youth by expecting them to actually (Gasp!), think? I am certainly guilty. Another damned sociologist, go ahead and hang me now before I replicate.

33. I appreciate that, but probably won't need it...
I was only concerned because I went into ATA at one point to browse the recent questions and was greatly surprised to see what I thought was my TCP/IP address staring me in the face. I don't really make a secret of my affiliations, but just don't want them broadcast all over the Internet. My students are probably keenly aware of who I am by now, as I have done a radio spot, and preparing another for the near future; these on a liberal FM station right here in town. Though, they don't know my username here.
