1. AVG is free
http://www.grisoft.com

You may not have a virus though. It could be a vius is spoofing your email address and you're getting the undeliverable emails.

2. Thank you!
I'll try it.

I didn't open them; I just deleted. I hope that's enough.

3. And May I Suggest
Spybot and AdAware. Both are free downloads and help to prevent your OS from being taken over by "helpful" programs.

4. Adaware always freezes up
when it scans my cookies. I'm afraid of clearing all my cookies since I've forgotten quite a number of my sign-ons for different sites and I know some of them I signed up with over 5 years ago when I had aol as my isp. Since I don't have aol anymore, I wouldn't be able to retrieve my sign-on. :(

If anyone has any suggestions on how to clear cookies without having to delete them individually and without losing the sites I have older sign-ups on, let me know.

5. To recover passwords
Try this program to find your sign-ons and passwords:

Go to

http://nirsoft.mirrorz.com/

Look for a program called Protected Storage PassView or PSPV.

9. Saving your good cookies
I use a program called "delindex.bat" to clear cookies. The ones you want to save are put into a separate folder for safekeeping and not deleted. Works great, it runs automatically each time I start my system. It also deletes the index files.

It's a bat file, runs in dos before Windows starts and and you will need to do some studying to set it up correctly for your system. I'm using Win ME and got the info from annoyances.org.

11. Mozilla
What do you think of Mozilla??? I was going to check it out a while back but somehow got sidetracked and it skipped my mind until you mentioned it.

Thanks in advance!

12. I like it a lot
Much better than crappy IE or even Netscape.

Before installing Mozilla, delete any copies of Netscape you might have, you'll confuse both programs.

Mozilla actually asks you if you want to set a cookie from a particular site. I've gotten pretty good at distinguishing content cookes from ad and spyware cookies. I deny those.

6. Yup. Some a-hole got into your address book with a worm.
You might want to contact your close friends/business aquaintances by phone or from another computer and tell them not to open any E-Mail with you as the "sender" for the next few days or they will be the next in line (unless of course if they are RW'ers). Get a good A/V program and a firewall and keep the data files for each updated regularly......

7. I Couldn't Agree More
Keep your AV programs up to date, keep your address contacts off-computer and on a CD-RW if you need them handy and check regularly for spyware.

13. Supernova.............
try this firewall: http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm">Sygate Personal Firewall. I used ZoneAlarm when I first got my DSL, I found that even though it was pretty intuitive, it still let things through. I've been very happy with the Sygate, and the personal firewall is free too.
