Has anyone posted this Andy Kaufman thing yet? Is it real?
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/040519/234/726q1.html

I saw the story linked on another board, but no verification anywhere else. And if you do a yahoo news search it comes up. But something is fishy about the www.andykaufmanreturns.com website. It has shit about Drudge and Anne Coulter on it. Somethings fishy but I haven't seen anything anywhere else about it.

2. It would be nice
The brilliant part about him was that this is even considered plausible. Yes, he could have faked it...all of it, including the cancer, if he had the right accomplices. I'll believe it when I see it, though.

If nothing else, this focus on his return and the presence of crowds at the House of Blues in LA was kind of a delayed-reaction prank, the last of Andy Kaufman's absurd and clever stunts.

4. Yeah. Even Andy wouldn't carry a joke THIS far.
Unless he, Elvis, and Jimmy Stewart are planning a big reunion tour.

3. Freaky!
Don't Kaufman's heirs have the rights to his image and likeness?

I smell a lawsuit, unless Andy is alive. YEAH, RIGHT!

17. It does sound like a Zmuda prank...
As a matter of fact, since the "press release" does promise "occasional public appearances," it wouldn't surprise me if Zmuda has found an impersonater who bears a resemblance to what Kaufman would possibly look like twenty years later, and have him make some appearances to keep the "is it or isn't it?" rumors flying.

As far as I'm concerned, if Andy Kaufman had really faked his death, the time for him to re-emerge would have been five years ago, when interest in his life was spurred by the release of Man on the Moon. Couldn't you imagine how he could have played it, coming out on stage just as the lights were coming back up after the premiere? It would have been one of the most legendary moments in show business.

18. Wouldn't surprise me in the least...
I forget the name of the guy who was his co-hort and co-conspirator, but that seems like the sort of thing Andy would have done. He was a genius.

And I still say that Jim Carrey was robbed for not getting the academy award for "Man in the Moon."

10. The website is definitely a joke
Edited on Wed May-19-04 11:36 PM by Susang
If he were alive, he would have shown up at the party Bob Zmuda threw for him on Sunday. Mr Susang's writing partner was there (in the super VIP section, no less) and alas, no Andy. My guess is that it is Zmuda, writing as Andy (he was Kaufman's writing partner and was Tony Clifton in most of the TV appearances, if you didn't already know, Andy only did it a few times) since it only appeared after the event on Sunday was over.

11. Janeane Garofalo constantly jokes that Ann Coulter is
really Andy Kaufman. But I strongly doubt he's alive.

19. The funniest part on "Kaufman's" blog
"Ann Coulter Rumors

I am in fact Ann Coulter.

Coulter is Kaufman.

Kaufman is Coulter.

I am not George Bush, as some had suspected."

12. prweb.com accepts anything
Besides, there's no way he could live in Manhattan for X years and not spawn even a handful of 'I saw Andy Kaufman' stories.

13. Wasn't there some sort of....confusion at his funeral?
I thought that some of his friends thought the whole sickness/death thing might have been faked, so they went to the funeral expecting to see Andy laughing at them.

He had pulled some weird shit on them before and they weren't 100% sure.
Anybody know about this?

20. Couldn't be...

From the blog:

"A special thanks to the wonderful Bunny Ranch ladies! Here I am in the Tony Clifton character."

Andy would never refer to Clifton as a "character."
