Poll question: Which of these popular baby names is the worst? (boys)
Edited on Thu May-20-04 02:59 AM by Delano
Most of these are from the top ten baby names for last year. I addded a couple I personally hate. To me, giving your kid the same name everybody else's kid has is just WRONG. Especially these cracker-barrel names!

Adding a link to the top ten list...

fixed link - I hope

Used to pick names from the Bible.

3. How about something like...
Mike, Bill, Bob, or Steve?

Those names are much more common.

6. Your link isn't working.
I would have picked Dylan, but I happen know a Taylor. He spends a lot of time getting mad at people for calling him "Tyler".

Dakota is another popular one.

7. Last names as first names is an annoying white-people trend.
Edited on Thu May-20-04 03:05 AM by Delano
People don't think about how their kid will sound as an adult.

Most parents would never DREAM of naming a kid "Herbert", but think about it - Herb Alpert, Herb Caen, Herb Ritts - sounds pretty damn cool, right? Can you imagine if it was "Taylor Alpert and the Tijuana Brass"

Old names are boss. Cute little trendy whitey-white names bite, IMO.

By the way, I was named ***** - the equivalent of "Matthew or "Christopher" back in 1969. I wish I didn't have such a dull name...

14. Had to go with Taylor
hate that name.

Dylan USED to be a cool name, but then every yuppie scum out there breeding their perfect little flash-card trained abominations named 'em Dylan or Dakota or one of the three names that yuppie scum go with because yuppie scum don't do anything that isn't approved and sanctioned by their group because doing anything original or interesting or new or creative is strictly verboten. That's why they all dress alike, buy the same stuff, drive the same cars, have the same outdoor grills, blah blah blah.

Taylor is a bad name overall. Dylan has just been killed by the yuppies. And don't get me started on the uncreative midwestern homogenous naming fads. Lots of awful stuff going on there.

15. They're all pretty bad.
Christopher is okay, but you never see just plain "Chris" on little boys. I think the worst one that I am seeing now in the kids that come to visit is "Colton". That name turns my stomach every time I hear it.

Not a strong enough 1st name, might be a good middle name.

18. I'd hate to single out a name, but....
I hate trendy names for children. Mine were all given very classic names with their middle names after a family member (my eldest son with my maiden name as middle). All those names like Taylor or Cody or whatever are going to be so dated in years to come. I'd rather name a kid Rainbow or Moonbeam than one of the common, boring, trendy ones. I didn't, but if I had to choose....:)

22. I agree
I like very classic names and I detest anything that sounds "made-up".

When I think back on the names of the folks I went to high school with, I'm surprised that some of those names haven't come back to popularity (namely Brian, Carol, Jeanne, Stephen....)

Lately it seems as though people are in some sort of a competition to see who can give their kid the weirdest name.

My son is Timothy. There were no other Timothy's in his grade at his last school, and there are two others in the entire high school he attends. Not an unusualy name at all, just not picked by many parents. Works for me.

19. I voted Taylor.
I echo the sentiments expressed above; last names posing as first names are just embarrassing.

I voted Taylor to stand in for ALL the names currently in vogue ending in the "er" sound... Taylor, Conner, Walker, Hunter, Baxter... it's time to make it stop. Just stop.

21. "Taylor" -- like "Madison" from the girls' list.....
It's a very WASPy thing to do.... so many family names linked to so many fortunes that a "real" first name is too common to use. And if Taylor or Madison is not a family name, it's just stupid.

The other names are OK, just overused right now. I knew a Dylan, but he's all grown up & probably naming his own kids by now. And his background was Welsh, so there was no clash of ethnicity. Not that a clash of ethnicity is wrong--if that's the family story!

Apologies to any Hunters that may be on the board, but this is meant to be a last name, not a first one.
