computer ? - outlook express
machine died - ended up erasing hard drive and reinstalling everything. Previously noted the BEST advice seems to be on this board! I can't seem to open a couple of attatchments in my email. Some DO work but two from someone I know and trust I cant get open. If I double click on paper clip I get a message that "OE removed access to the following unsafe attatchments in your mail" I have a server based email virus protection (postini) that seems to work well - it did not stop these mails (again trusted) plus Norton. Why did outlook express block? Do I have something set wrong? that is my bet but I don't know where to change it.

Thanks in advance, again I've noticed good fast advice on DU before, and I'm just not ready to deal with any "professional" tech support for a while longer after last week (shudder)

Go to Tools/Options then click on the security tab and change the security from restricted to internet, and then remove the check next to do not allow attachments. that should fix it.

2. Its an OE setting by default.
From the menu bar at the top of Outlook Express, click on "Tools" and then on "Options". When the Options window is open, click on the security tab. Change the security level to "Internet Zone" and uncheck the box next to "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus".

Thanks guys! (not sexist - I include all genders/sexes in the "guys" catagory)

And thanks DU as well, such a diverse and large forum, gets the questions out there fast. Probably should have went to the library or something when the thing croaked! Is DU planning an 800 number?

edit spelling
