Pie-in-Face Contest gets Student Expelled
The school-sponsored event asked students to pay 50-cents to pie their favorite or least favorite teacher or principal in the face!

A student's parents are outraged now that administrators have suspended him from Ottawa County's Danbury high school. It's all over a fundraiser held during school hours. What's puzzling is school administrators encouraged the students to participate in the pie-in-the-face contest. The targets were the teachers and the principal. Now one student's education is on the line.

Tina and Don Molnar say a pie-in-the-face contest held by Danbury high school got their son expelled for 80 days. The school posted flyers asking students to pay 50-cents to pie their favorite or least favorite teacher or principal in the face! The students could enter as many times as they wanted. The Molnars' son was selected to throw a pie in the principal's face. After the contest she filed a complaint with the police. Now her former student could face charges.

The Molnar's say their 15-year-old son has a 3.5 GPA and has no disciplinary marks on his school record. The boy's parents filed an appeal to challenge the schools decision.

3. What a fucking prick...

Get a sense of humour asshole, you should have a better relationship with your students than this.

Disgraceful.

4. It doesn't make sense
Why throw a contest if you are end up going to suspend any student who decides to actually participate in the contest. It either sounds like a set up or the student may was too aggressive in the pie throwing.

6. I couldn't tell from the story how hard he hit the principal.
I have seen the "pie-ee" smashed hard enough to bloody his nose and knock him off his feet. Maybe tough love is in order for this fine young man. It's not funny to attempt and accomplish physical harm on another.

7. Watch the video from the link....
In the vid they discuss the rules. Apparently you had to throw it from a minimum 1 foot away. It looks like his hand is still on the pie plate. Still a bit excessive in terms of punishment to me at least.

8. Well, just because he's a "good kid" with good grades
Doesn't mean that they should just say, "Boys will be boys..." He broke the rule, putting that principal in jeopardy, so he should definitely get punished, but I agree with y'all that expulsion for 80 days is a bit much.

9. Sorry, but, I disagree that the boy is the one at fault. The school had
no business having a fund raiser of this nature. Further, a distance of one foot in not nearly enough to prevent injury should something go wrong.I can stand a foot a way from another person and still touch, with my whole hand, the face of that person. This whole scenario was ill-conceived and dangerous. It was begging on hands and knees for trouble.

I watched the news video, and it looked to me like the boy did not have good footing when he was throwing the pie. His arm looks stretched out, suggesting that he did follow the ONLY rule for the pie throwing fund raiser.

If I were the parents, I think I would be considering legal action againt the school for the whole fiasco.

As Bugs Bunny would say, "What a bunch of maroons!"

10. Exactly. With this dumb idea, what is the probability that something will
go awry? Not very small, to be sure.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.
