Love this album

but don't have any of the others. I love Vigil, that's a fantastic record.

but I've never taken the plunge. Talk me into it.

but their early stuff is reminiscent of Genesis when Peter Gabriel was in the band. The later stuff starts to stink right about when the former lead singer Fish left the band in 1988 or so after Clutching at Straws. The new guy Steve Hogarth is a good singer, but Fish was a masterful writer.

Fish went on to a lackluster solo career. His lyrics tend to cut close to the bone as he draws lots and lots from his life experiences, alcoholism, bad relationships, the boot...

My first husband was a big Marillion fan -- I always liked Script a lot. 'He Knows You Know' always got thrown on the dark side of my mix tapes. I kind of was iffy on Misplaced Childhood, though. I like Clutching at Straws, but we divorced not long after that, and it was one of those things -- Fish's voice just felt like somebody was stabbing me in the head with a spike. I've since gone back and bought copies of Script and one of the singles compilations with all the early stuff on it.

but I like all of the Fish years stuff.

That was almost ten years ago, though. We've both remarried and I can say with certainty I'm happy -- hope he is, too. We still e-mail each other occasionally, it wasn't a complete hatefest for the most part. We were the people the phrase 'irreconcilable differences' was developed for, I think.

I much prefer the Fish stuff, and I did like the song 'Big Wedge' and his cover of 'Something In The Air' -- unfortunately, somebody else did a cover of it around the same time, and his just dropped like a stone, never to be heard from again.

Saw the video for Kayleigh on VH1-C the other night. I still wish they'd show Incommunicado or Lady Nina -- they were better songs, I thought. And there's that whole 'La Gazza Ladra' live set they could pull vids from. Oh, well -- Mr. Dick isn't pretty enough, I guess.

they were good live in the Season's End tour.

The ex has seen some of Fish's solo stuff -- he's a sound engineer, so he has been on tours and been able to catch Fish in New York and Chicago.

A friend of ours saw them open for Rush in Cincinnati back in the early 80s. He said the sound was lousy -- not too surprising. My ex also was a big Rush fan, and we saw them four or five times. The only opening act that didn't get crappy sound was Eric Johnson. The sound for everybody else we saw open -- Primus, Jon Butcher Axis, Mr. Big -- was crappy. You'd think Rush would have more self-confidence than that, but I've heard it goes with the territory when you open for them.

I saw Marillion live once...

Sunday March 11, 1984 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, England. Fugazi was just about to be released so they played most of Script and most of Fugazi and finished up with Market Square Heroes. I'm really glad I got to see them live at that time!

first tour with Steve... they did almost all old stuff, but it was very good.

I'm not necessarily the biggest fan, but I do have "Six of one, Half Dozen of the Other" in the CD player in my car right now. Also bought the CD of Holidays in Eden (liked the song of that name on the hits compilation, not quite so impressed with the entire album), and have a few cassettes with live stuff on them, given to me by the guy who introduced me to their stuff back in college, in a vain effort to get me to date him, or so it seemed at the time.

Found Marillion about 2 years ago (about the same time i found Prefab Sprout). Love the stuff.
