Anybody have any advise to deal with animal relations?
We have a slight problem with animal relations in the house, not serious but somewhat disheartening. OK, 4 months ago we had one of our cats give birth to 4 kittens, all turned out healthy and we gave two to a friend who loves them very much. Anyways, the two we have, Reeses and Sylvester are very sweet and drive us just a little ragged, but it is not them I am worried about it is Lucy our dog.

Today Reeses was trying to play with Lucy, the problem is that Lucy fears cats, alot. She is not a small dog, she's a little over knee high at the shoulder (Chow mix). The oddest thing is that she is not a violent dog, I have not ever heard her growl or bark at the cats, she simply runs away and tries to hide. I would like for her to not be so fearful but I have no clue as to what to do. Reeses was being gentle, and considering that she is not even knee high to the dog it is weird to see Lucy run away from her. Reeses started to rub up against her legs and would sniff her nose, then a second later Lucy would run and jump on the couch to get away from her.

What I thought was odd was Reese's reaction, instead of chasing her, she walked away, sulking, like she lost a friend. Its kinda sad to see such a young kitten who is absolutely fearless, try to make a friend with Lucy and fail, wonder if anyone has any tips to help with this?

1. try socializing your animals with you there. Hold them together
as you sit watching tv. play with them together. it takes a while for animals to get to know each other. They can cue off you.

3. Lucy will get used to them. Don't worry.
Kittens can be annoying most of the time. She'll adjust to their antics. Give it some time. As long as she's not violent towards the cats, you don't have anything to worry about.

5. One thing about Lucy...
We rescued her from the pound, RIGHT before she was to be euthanized, she had obedience training, and is not assertive at all. She is the second most timid dog I have ever seen, and its slightly worse now that her best friend and mate Lucky died this previous summer. I figure these kittens would do her a world of good and get her back to her happy self again. I'm trying to smooth things over for her as best as possible.

7. I break out in itchy hives. if I am around cat too much.
No respiratory problems, just the hives. Watery blisters on the soles of my feet take weeks to heal if I take my shoes off. Itchy blisters on my hand from using the cat owners computer mouse, if I'm not careful about washing my hands.
