AN ADULT CICADA SITS ON A LEAF IN ARLINGTON
A newly emerged adult cicada peers over the top of a leaf in Arlington, Virginia May 20, 2004. Billions, probably trillions, of cicadas are emerging this month across the eastern United States, from Georgia north to southern New York and as far west as Illinois. REUTERS/John Pryke

8. If they were, they'd probably be there by now.
We've got them in southwest Ohio. They just came out a few days ago. I was out in the back yard earlier and they are beginning to fly around. Nothing gives me the creeps like big bugs. I just hope none of them land on me because I will freak out.
