1. Not about "Tarkus"...but why did ELP have to ruin Copland's...
"Fanfare for the Common Man"?

Flame away, but I thought it was sacrilege. I like ELP for the most part.

3. How can you know where you've been?
Will you know how the seed is sown?
Have you walked on the stones of years?
When you speak, is it you that hears?
Are your ears full?

4. Personally I liked "Hoedown"
Y'know, I really don't think I've heard "Fanfare" for some reason. Bizarre.

5. No, I agree
The whole 70's-rock-to-classical-remake thing (Switched on Bach, Tomita's Planets, etc.) was pretty lame.

Brain Salad Surgery and Trilogy rocked.

7. I agree with Hooked on Classics and Switched on Bach and that crap, but:
I don't have a problem with classic-to-rock. That's kind of rock's job, among other things. The Hooked on classics worst problem is that it was disco. NOTHING can be made in disco that has worth.

9. Not particularly. I'm just saying I don't mind it
I kind of liked ELP's "Pictures at an Exhibition". I prefer original music, but I'm not opposed to rock borrowing from time to time. However, I really hated the disco versions that came out in the 70's. Pure pandering.

15. Actually, I think Copeland liked it!
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Aaron Copeland appreciated their reinterpretations of "Fanfare" and "Hoedown".

18. Were you able to stay awake through the whole thing?
I only ask because for me, "Tuchus," er, "Tarkus" is an excellent cure for insomnia.

19. Actually...
"Aquatarkus" from the live triple LP "Welcome Back My Friends" is pretty cool...It's the song where Emerson would come to the front of the stage with a moog...motherboard, I guess I'd call it, run his finger up and down it (in obvious mastubatory fashion) with sparks shooting out of it's end...(well maybe you had to be there, saw them in '74 on the tour that lp was recorded, my second concert ever and I thought they were great!)

Interesting, though...after punk rock exploded they come up with..."Love Beach"???

The Pat Travers band did a version of Beethoven's 5th that was fantastic. I think it was on their Black Pearl album.

Rainbow did the final movement of Beethoven's 9th. Awesome.

Uli Roth did some beethoven as well. As long as he can keep his mouth shut or the mouths of his awful singers, he is stunning.

I heard a rock version of Holst's The Planets that truly rocked. Can't remember who did it though.

So, it can be done.
