I Don't Trust Jiffy Lube Employees
Don't get me wrong. I have nothing against suggestive selling, or "plus-selling" or preventative maintenance... but I know when someone is trying to take advantage of me.

When it comes to auto maintenance, I'm no slouch... I can do the easy-access routine tasks that aren't too dirty and don't require special tools or crawling beneath the car. --- I know how to add oil, check and top-off fluid levels, change air filters, and wiper blades.

Last weekend I did just that. I changed my air filter and put on new wiper blades. Easy stuff.

Today, I stopped in to Jiffy Lube for JUST an oil change. And, as expected, I got the sales pitch about having my radiator flushed and transmission changed and engine flushed and fuel injectors cleaned.

Normally, I just say "no thanks"... but this time he also had the NERVE to tell me that I needed a new air filter and new wiper blades.

"I DO?? REALLY? How can that be? I just replaced BOTH of them last week."

He got a bit sheepish and fumbled for an excuse... finally coming up with "oh, never mind, I must have gotten you confused with another customer."

Yeah right. Just the oil change please.

I cant stand when they do that, and they charge 10 times the
amount if you did.

had his shocks replaced at WalMart or KMart at some point, went back about 6 weeks later for tires. They told him he needed new shocks...

so he says, OK. They replace the shocks and when he goes to pay, whips out the warranty. Has to pay for the tires only. As i recall he told me the manager asked 'why did you let them replace the shocks?' He tells him, 'your mechanics said they needed to be replaced..." That was one pissed off manager.

this story is funny if you knew my b.i.l. Really low key, lets things like this just roll along. I would have been calling the guy on his shit about the shocks just being installed...he just lets them catch hell later.

4. They're counting on you being a dolt.
If you show a modicum of knowledge about your car's service, they'll back off. It's a little game we play with the quickie lube guys. Even if my wiper blades or air filter DO need to be replaced, I thank them for letting me know, then go do it myself.
