1. No, she didn't emerge.
Perhaps she is in the hospital. Sounded like she needed to be kept there. I hope she is being well taken care of. Said she was heading to Northwestern Memorial, it is a great hospital.

2. No, but I have been thinking a lot about her today. It sounded like a very
scary situation. I hope all is alright.

4. Her story really touched me...
I can't believe that someone is put in a situation like this in a civilized society. Here in Germany, the oliv-greens and the social-democratic-repukes are just about to exclude dental-care from health-insurance. Hey, let's be as free as America! I couldn't even believe what I was reading, when one DUer reported that he removed or tried to remove one of his teeth all by himself. This just sounds like a third-world-horror story. Hey, I couldn't donate to DU, 'cause I felt that this wouldnt be appropriate for a foreigner (the repukes will state, DU is financed by foreign forces, but if Cararose should still be into problems, I'm willing to donate 150$. Anyone with me?
Hello from Germany,
Dirk

5. The Replicants will say...
what the Replicants say no matter who donates. I'm sure the DU owners don't care where support to keep us open comes from!

But, I think that if corarose is in dire circumstances that we will indeed rally to help---we have before and I imagine will again. One reason I like this crew of maniacs!

Yes, wasn't that self-extraction story terrible? What was worse? The act or being driven to do that? I'm not sure. Welcome to George Bush*'s :"compasionate conservatism"

6. again, ANY CHICAGO DU'ers here?
Someone who may know her, or someone who may know someone?
It wouldn't be a long shot would it if a call were put in to local (NorthWestern?) hospitals to check or inquire with her friends?
I realize it's a big city, but...30,000 DU'ers abound, what are the odds someone could be connected? And could check up, check out her situation?

thanks for starting this thread, WD !
the other was on page 6 in the lounge last time i looked for news.

hope for the best.

7. I am in Chicago,
Edited on Wed Aug-20-03 10:46 PM by greatauntoftriplets
but I don't know her real name or her family or friends. The hospital won't give out information to non-family. We all hope she is okay.

On edit: Chicago has 7 million people. And hospitals protect patient's privacy.

8. Yes, but
a hospital should be able to tell you that a person has been admitted for definative conditions.
yeah, i know it's a big city and a long shot, and without a last name it's next to impossible.
Not everyone reads every thread, so...
just hoping for a friend of hers who might not have seen the thread or was aware of the situation she was going through.
When she first wrote about her condition and after a few posts i alerted the Mods to check their records to see if they could contact someone, hoping they had some contact information and would act on it. Heddi was there in moments and convinced her to go seek medical care.
Corarose sounded close to an emergency shock/combined drug reaction and was clearly in a dire circumstance. It was sad to hear her suffering so.

here's hoping for the best for her.

9. Not any more.
"...a hospital should be able to tell you that a person has been admitted for definative conditions..."

Hospitals won't tell you anything if you aren't family, even to find out if someone is or isn't in the hospital.

10. actually,
i just called our local hospital and inquired if there had been a recent admittance for a dental emergency. They weren't very helpful, but were polite enough to tell me that they had no recent dental emergencies. This was calling the emergency ward. I just explained i was looking for my friend, not a family member and was hoping to find they had gotten in.
It wasn't that difficult to at least establish whether or not "someone' had been admitted.

anyway, i'm a parent, and have had the wonderful experience of calling emergeny rooms once after my oldest was late for far too many hours getting home due to a traffic accident on a major hiway that she was luckily not involved in, but stuck in the traffic for 3 hours without a cellphone. I found out enough to wait it out and breathe at the same time.

maybe it's a gift.
anyway, here's hoping corarose is in good hands.

18. Back in the late 1960s,
I tried to get information on the father of a friend who I thought was hospitalized. They told me they could give out no information and that I should talk to the family. This was probably 35 years ago.

19. Things may have changed, since the idea of ``family'' has changed
I am just grateful that corarose is safe and back among us, even though she will probably be on soft foods for awhile. I did that last fall and lost weight. Friends asked me how I did it and I said I wouldn't recommend dental surgery as a way of losing weight.
