How much was your most recent grocery bill?
I shopped today and spent $172.43. 80% went for food, 11% for non-food, and 9% for cat food.

How about you?

13. Heh. The groceries.

The wine lasts me for the week. I have one glass every night.

edit: My list usually includes meat; veggies, and berries for sure. Sometimes I add pate, cheese, olives, and seltzer.

4. It is always over $100 even when it seems like I have hardly gotten
anything.

Like you, it is frequently getting way to close to the $200 range and that's without even being extravagant. It sucks!

6. about 25 Euros
I have several Supermarkets and other Grocery stores within 500 meters, so my bills tend to be frequent and small.

About 2 Euros for Pastries, cake, bread and rolls.
About 10 Euros for water and beer (9 liters water / 11 half-liters beer)
Rabbit liver, onions, lime, carrots, milk, Orange Juice, butter... at the supermarket made up the remainder of the bills.

I can live very well (all vegetables organic, all bread fresh from the bakery) with about 50 Euros a week. Wine and other luxuries go extra.

20. Where do you live?
I hate being so ignorant of things like the exchange rate, the groceries commonly bought in other countries, etc. I'm a typical American. :eyes:

8. $29...
6 of 1 lb ground turkey (6x$1.19)
6 frozen veggies (6x$1.67)
1 gallon of moo (1x$4.20)
Sundry junk food (About $9)

I live alone, eat alone, only buy non-perishable items when they're on sale (Hamburger helper, tuna fish, Oriental spice mixes, et al), and stock up on everything when I can. (frozen veggies a month ago had cost $1.50/each, two weeks before that they were $1 each, I love sales...)

I did a taste test of various ground turkey brands. The 97 cent version wasn't tasty and was not healthy... the $1.67 version tasted right and was the healthiest but was too pricey. The $1.19 version tastes reasonably nice and is decent in terms of nutrition/fat amounts.

My diet is almost appallingly plain and, of course, I have no children begging and screaming at me to buy that unhealthy "Lunchables" rubbish and such that corporate america aims at kids with...

I can spend anywhere between $150 to $275 per month on food and that includes going to restaurants with coworkers who I'll never marry.

I will be buying less junk food for health reasons and because of increasing prices on everything else.

Did you know it's a law that you're supposed to eat over the sink? I didn't, 'til a friend came over one night as I was eating dinner. He saw my meal laid out on the table and said, "You're not doing it right! You're single -- you're supposed to eat standing up in the kitchen!" He was joking, of course. But I mended my ways instantly. It only made the cats mad: no crumbs left on the table.

I've got a man (well, sometimes that's debatable, but I digress) and it's about a week of staples for us and four kidlets (oh yes, I'm quite a breeder LOL). There will be more trips during the weeks for incidentals and produce though. We buy in bulk, look for sales, and keep junk food minimal so it's not too bad.

and that is with coupons and a senior discount thrown in and I buy very little meat and I don't get but a few bags. Everything went up again I noticed shopping the other day (sandwiches - up $.50); bread from $2.29 a loaf to $2.89 a loaf.

It goes on and on and on and on ...

16. it's kind of hard to tell
just me and my teen son (and he's ALWAYS hungry!). last time i bought in bulk (payday, first of the month), i spent $85, but that didn't include much meat or veggies, it was grocery warehouse stuff, which is mostly frozen and canned food. we eat a lot of fast food (hiding head), mexican, chinese, etc., so it's hard to figure out exactly how much i spend on food.

food prices aren't really an issue with me at the moment (thank God!), but they have been in the past when i was a single mother with 3 sons, on welfare and attending university. now THAT was tight and i pinched pennies til they screamed! i could do it again if i had too...

18. I spend $100 a week
on room and board, payable to my brother and his wife. She is a dynamite cook, has lots of friends who come over and cook. I sometimes feel ashamed of myself, but I ask, sometimes too often, whether I am pulling my weight. I think that I am the only one other than my sister in law who appears to know how to wash dishes or load a dishwasher factors into their protestations that I am more than contibuting.

23. Today I spent $95.78--and that's just for me!
And I'm not a big eater. But I don't cook and I need my chocolate, so these things make my food more expensive. I also bought 8 cups of yogurt, which are $.89 each, way too expensive in my opinion but I eat one every day. Also got some stock-up items.

And my bill would have been higher, but I saved $13.28 from coupons and sale items (plus a couple of bucks back from bottle returns).

26. 64 bucks, it's just me...
That's mostly lunch stuff. Some weeks I spend as mutch as $90, but that would include cleaning supplies, too.

And yes, I notice prices going up, yoo. Fresh meat is not as cost-effective as it used to be, compared to Soy Analogs.

Boca Burgers and Gardenburger is what gets served in my kitchen most the time now.

28. I've been thinking a lot about going meatless
It's easier in the summer. Which do you like better: Boca Burger or Gardenburger? And, is there an edible soy alternative for someone who's eaten meat all her life?

29. I like 'em both.
Right now I have in my freezer:
Boca Bratwurst, Italian sausage, and the Black-bean burger (YUM!)
In the Gardenburger line, I have "Meat"loaf, Riblets, chicky-nuggets and the incredibly deliscous Herb-Crusted Cutlet...

As far as eating meat all your life, join the club. I too am a life-long carnivore.

The only thing I have found that I didn't care for is "Okara Patties". Kind of like I remember "veggie-burgers" tasting like years ago. Probably popular with aging hippies who are feeling nostalgic for "Sawdust on a Bun"...

I get the benefits of Soy w/o the Cholesterol and calories. And it tastes good. I don't care HOW good something is supposed to be for you, if it doesn't taste good, it ain't going on MY plate!

30. I just dropped $22.64 at Shaw's.
Last week, however, I spent about twice as much as I had to get a bunch of non-food items. This week, it was 100% edibles. Not only that, but I live alone and have no pets. Plus, I eat out a lot on my driving job!

33. Yesterday paid $115
for a week of feeding four, two of whom are small kids. but I forgot to buy butter, which is apparently now close to $5 a pound!!!! I aim for $100, which is getting harder and harder to stay under. It was all food, except for a bottle of cleaner and a six pack of beer.

We eat very little meat or prepared food, and a lot of brown rice. My husband has a great recipe for beans and rice -- quick, cheap, and delicious. We eat it a LOT.
