CROWN POINT -- A man charged with biting his girlfriend's 2-year-old boy allegedly told police "it served him right."
Jacob D. Fernandez, 21, 10851 Miami St., Crown Point, is charged with battery and faces a maximum of three years in prison if convicted.
The boy's mother took her son to Methodist Hospitals Southlake Campus in Merrillville on March 25 because he suffered from fever, diarrhea and weight loss, according to court records.
Doctors there noticed what appeared to be a human bite on his right arm. At first, the boy's mother said a 4-year-old bit her son, but when doctors saw the bite mark was too large to be from a child, she recanted. The woman told doctors Fernandez bit her son "while having a nightmare," an affidavit states.
