motherboard opinions pls
i just got a very nasty worm which has completely demolished my system. Its in the bios and when i turn on the puter it doesnt even recognize the drives anymore. I cleaned the cmos to no avail. Sigh
Anyway, any opinions or recommendations from people happy with the boards? I want to stay with athlon - thanks

2. You say "you cleaned" the CMOS.
Does this mean you set it back to factory default? Have you considered reprogramming the CMOS? There's a utility, something like aflash.exe, that is used with a bios program (or bios update) that may be available on your motherboard's manufacturer website, and which when used properly rewrites the CMOS programming. It can also be used to save an existing bios to a file, as a kind of 'backup.'

I've had good luck with ASUS boards, and also with BCM. That experience is with older boards no longer available, nothing current.

3. Go Linux. It's $1000 less than a Mac and uses a similar OS.
Mac OS X is merely Apple's hijacked version of FreeBSD (which can compile *nix source code as I recall). I didn't see any price savings trickle down to the customer either...

As for mobo's: Abit NF7... Abit or SuSE seem to usually be the best.
