How do you handle friends/family/co-workers who are repuke racists?

Do you confront them and argue when they expouse hate or tactfully try and change the subject to something other than politics?

I am not nice about it anymore. People are dying, children are dying. If it was about taxes or civil political differences, sure, let it slide. But not about the war, or the destruction of this country. The most deadly weapons of mass destruction are apathy and silence.
