Question for studious Sopranos fans
Edited on Mon May-24-04 07:31 AM by Bombtrack
Ok, I kind of missed/forgot who Tony B.(Steve Buscemi) killed Billy Leotardo(the brother of Phil Leotardo, (the guy pictured below) on behalf of

I assume now it was for little Carmine, and the guys who asked him to do it were the same guys in leather jackets at the beginning of last nights episode talking to Little Carmine. Do I have this all right?

1. Here's my understanding.....
There was a power struggle between little Carmine and Johnny Sac.
Angelo was was part of Johnny Sacs crew and was Tony B's prison cell mate.
For whatever reason Angelo paid Tony B to kill Joey Peeps, who was part of Johnny Sacs crew.
In retaliation Phil and his brother Billy had Angelo killed.
Tony B then killed Billy and wounded Phill in revenge.

The only thing I can't figure out is why Angelo wanted Joey Peeps gone.

Admittedly it's somewhat confusing but is still great drama nonetheless.

2. I think Angelo must have been one of Little Carmine's guys

. I still don't quite remember what Angelo looks like. But I believe the 2 guys talking to Little Carmine at the beginning of last nights episode, were the same 2 guys who asked Tony B. to make his first hit at the casino. Were they not the same 2 guys? If they were clearly it was Little Carmine's decision to whack Joey Peeps.

3. Sorry for going off-topic here, but...
...I've wondered about this for awhile.

Is the guy pictured the same guy Pesci whacked in 'Goodfellas'? I figured, since there's so many other people on the show that were in that movie (Melfi, Christopher, etc.).

Just wondering.

4. Yeah, they just talked about this on Howard Stern. They said that guy's
claim to fame is gettting his ass kicked by Joe Pesci in a bunch of different movies, and they're bandmates in real life.

5. I know way too much about this show
Here's the story in New York. Carmine, Sr. died. Little Carmine came back to New York from Miami and made a play for power against Johnny Sack, Carmine, Sr's underboss. Everyone assumed that Johnny would be boss, but Carmine as the son had some support.

Little Carmine was really being pushed by Rusty (Frankie Vallie) and some other guy I can't remember. Johnny Sack had Phil Leotardo, Billy Leotardo, and Johnny Peeps acting as his main hit men.

The first volley came with the death of Lorane (the female loan shark). Both Carmine and Johnny were demanding that she kick up to them. She decided to kick up to Carmine out of loyalty to his father (and the fact they were sleeping together). Johnny retaliated by having Peeps kill her (after Leotardo had threatened her earlier). Then Johnny sank Carmine's boat.

Angelo got involved in this way. He was Carmine Sr's consigliere twenty years ago before he went to prison. He came back and announced he was "retired." At first, Tony Soprano tried to arrange a three-way power share with Angelo, Johnny and Carmine. Johnny said "Fuck no" to that. Then Angelo decided to support Carmine.

As revenge on the hit on Lorane, Angelo arranged for Tony B to kill Peeps. Tony B did that without Tony S's permission, but he still covered it up and lied to Johnny.

So for revenge on the Peep's hit, Johnny had the Leotardo brothers kill Angelo. When Tony B heard about this, he went nuts since he and Angelo had been cellmates for years. He killed Billy Leotardo and wounded Phil (the guy with the white hair who was killed by Joe Pesci in Goodfellas). So now Phil wants revenge on Tony B who is in hiding.

Phew.

6. Thanks, I knew alot of that, just sort of needed it to be pieced together
a bit more. I don't know if you are going to check back, but do you know if Old Carmine did and Johnny Sack now run's one of the 5 families? That's what I assume or seem to remember, but it's renamed something that isn't one of the real 5 families. Like Lupaterza or something like that. I wonder what one of the families deals the most with New Jersey.

7. In the show, it's the Lupatezzi family, I think
It's supposed to be one of the five New York families; the show has referenced the five families before.

In real life, the Gambinos and Genovese alternate between being the most powerful NYC families. The Gambinos had a lot of dealings with the New Jersey family (DeCalvacchia) under John Gotti in the 80s and 90s. Today, the NJ family is on its last legs so I don't know what their dealings with NYC are.
