McDonald's Offering DVDs

Denver Is Test Market For DVD Rentals

POSTED: 3:29 p.m. EDT May 24, 2004
UPDATED: 3:53 p.m. EDT May 24, 2004

DENVER -- McDonald's may be phasing out supersizing but it's going to be adding what you might call movie-sizing, and asking if you want a movie with your meal.

That's because all 105 Denver-area McDonald's will soon be renting out DVDs.

The top 30 movie rentals in the country will be available at Redbox kiosks inside and outside McDonald's locations.

The rental fee is $1 per day plus tax, and the DVDs can be returned to any McDonald's location.

2. at a $ a day
It will raise the number of people streaming through McDonald's. Those people will also probably purchase some burgers and fries.

Win win situation for McDonald's.

6. Perhaps to counter the pirates?
.. since the Danish franchies have introduced so-called hot spots, where anyone with a laptop & wireless LAN card (and a monthly fee of around 40$) can surf the internet at McDonald's. And I've been told that the speed is way up - which is probably why a whole McDonalds have been rented for a LAN event(!)

7. Better hope the drop-off box is automated...
I wouldn't trust the minimum wage kiddies to get it right... You wouldn't want a bill for $30, plus compound tax...
