7. hey DS1 ...
you know, i used to have a 56K dial-up modem and when the lights went out, I could still get on the net until the laptop battery died ...

now, i have a dsl modem and a wi-fi router that are a/c dependent ... if the power goes, I go with it ...

yes, this has been a most impressive storm ...

8. Yeah, I have a UPS on this machine, but no modem anymore
as far as the net is concerned I'd be gone, but I'd live in - for a few minutes anyway

2. At least your Internet is still working. I lost cable and
Internet both one day and was like a lost puppy - pathetic.

4. Check the limbs on the trees.
My father warned me off rain fade when I got satellite, but I didn't have it for two years and we get some pretty good storms in Mississippi.

When I did start having the problem, it turned out the limbs on certain trees had grown and were interfering with the signal.

9. God, I hate cable.
I haven't had it in years and I'm temporarily staying with someone who has it.

I guess it depends on where you live, but the basic cable here has a lot of religious and lifestyle channels. Also, it costs almost as much (just for basic, no digital) as satellite does with a premium movie package and a couple of pay-per-view rentals.
