Poll question: To what lofty heights will the trash climb before my husband takes it out?
RANT: My husband, while a dear, sweet man, is seemingly blind to the fact that the trash must be taken out every so often. I am going on STRIKE in this regard!!

1. You forgot the olfactory dimension...

Many times the trigger to remove the trash comes more from the smell than the volume. It must reach that critical point where even men can smell it.

It's all in the "How to Annoy Women" manual we are secretly issued in junior high school. ("Hygiene class?" That and more!)

3. LOL
It slays me! He'll eat some dessert he brought home from one of his dinner presentations, then lift the lid to set the styrofoam box on top of the rest of the teeming garbage, then blithely walk away! Methinks he needs his vision checked or something!

2. I tried this tactic with my roommates
You will be surprised (and disgusted) at how high it will get before he does anything. For some reason, emptying the trash is an indescribable horror for a lot of people.

6. Bless his heart, he won't scoop cat poop, either
I'm going to visit my sister in California next month, and he'll be on his own for a week. I'm sure the germs in the litter boxes will start constructing their own cities, too! We don't have kids, and if we ever adopt he has informed me he would be unable to change diapers, as well.

He's a very neat and clean person; I do believe he wants nothing to do with microbial critters.

5. I feel your pain.
Mine took a nap while I mowed the lawn and made dinner. Then he relaxed while I gave the baby a bath. He still didn't take the trash out.

But that's okay because I go away for at least a day every month to jog his memory of what householding entails.

7. Why is this a husband's job?
If I (female) notice that the garbage is full, I'll take it out myself. My boyfriend, of course, does the same.

I guess I would be upset if I would be left with that chore ALL the time.

9. It's NOT just a man's job
But nor should it be only mine. If I saw the lawn needed mowing and he didn't do it, you can be sure I'd be mowing it. But I am not the only one responsible for manufacturing trash around here, and I'm sick of being the only one who notices when it's overflowing!

UPDATE: The lid is now at a 45-degree angle and there is discarded mail (his) on the floor. He promised to take it out after dinner, but has parked himself in the family room watching Irish Parliament on C-SPAN. Day One of the garbage strike is drawing to a close! What will Day Two bring??

10. Either my husband or I take it out if we notice it's full
I just tend to notice it a bit sooner than he does. My stepsons are utterly oblivious to the existence of trash, even if they have to wade through it. There's a reason I won't go into their bedrooms - I don't want to stick to anything! :puke:

I'm better about dumping the catbox than John is, but he'll do it if he notices it. Again, I tend to notice it a little sooner. I'm ALWAYS the one who cleans the bathroom; it's the one thing I'm a bit finicky about. I think a dirty bathroom is truly disgusting, but neither my husband nor my stepsons see anything unusual in a toilet that is apparently growing new life forms or a bathtub that's mottled black and furry. :puke: :puke: :puke:

11. I don't even expect my husband to take out the garbage anymore...
After 24 years of marriage, I've lowered my standards. NOW I just try to get him to throw things IN the garbage! Like empty milk containers, donutless donut boxes, and the BIGGIE--empty PIZZA BOXES!

13. do you wash the clothes?
if so, don't do his until he does his share around the house.

but knowing some men he wouldn't care then you'd have to smell stinky clothes.

There are definitely times I'm glad I'm not married :-)
