PARKERSBURG - For four years, Parkersburg resident Aaron Edwards, now 11, prayed for his lost Quaker parakeet with the chipped beak to return home.
Those prayers were answered Friday.
The bird, Fred, flew away when the boy's father, Mike, took him to his used car lot on Seventh Street.
While the boy said his prayers at least once a week, Mike Edwards, who also drives a tow truck, asked people he towed who lived in that area if they had seen a green bird. Several of them had seen Fred eating seed from their feeders. Fred had also been spotted in a junkyard.
When the bird was returned Friday, the metal identification band had been removed from his foot. The Edwardses believe someone kept the bird for the first six months - before he escaped again and made appearances at area feeders. They even set up cameras at bird feeders, hoping to catch a glimpse of Fred.
