Doesn't matter what for. Have you ever been arrested? Put in a cop car, in handcuffs, hauled off, that sort of thing.

when you were already late to work?

My husband was on his way to the garage for a hacksaw when I found a paperclip. Luckily, they were the cheap kind of cuffs, not police cuffs. We quit with the cheapo cuffs, though - the key doesn't work consistently. The police cuffs are much less likely to make you late for work...unless you LOSE the key.
