What do you think about when you vote?
I always wonder why more people don't vote. It really bothers me that people don't care more about it.
Why should people need to feel motivated to drive a few miles and cast their ballots? Laziness, apathy, or something more?
As a woman, I always think of Susan B. getting arrested for voting. When I finish, I feel a connection with her. I'm probably preaching to the choir here, aren't I?

1. I don't know I haven't voted yet
Edited on Tue May-25-04 05:39 PM by Champ
I think it's the candidates, alot of non-politicals view most dems and reps as sell outs to special interests, corporations, etc and not a man or woman of the people. But yeah I can understand how people feel when others take the right to voting seriously when there were people who fought hard for the right to vote such as the woman's right as well as those who fought to lower the voting age to 18 and such. That's just my .02.

3. I give thanks for all the fools who don't bother voting
Edited on Tue May-25-04 05:42 PM by slackmaster
Every one of them makes MY vote count more.

BTW - I have NEVER failed to vote. My first election was the California Democratic Primary in March 1976. I voted for Jimmy Carter for President.

4. Sometimes I think "wasting my time".
I live in a heavily repub area.
But I still go in and "waste my time"...EVERY time.
Too many people have bled and died so that I can do this.
Can't let 'em down.

6. I'm thinking about democracy
and how lucky I am to have the right, the obligation and the responsibility to vote.

I live in a rural area and many here don't vote. They have let taxes and gov't intrusion into their lives destroy their faith in democracy.

In Canada we vote on June 28 - I've already made arrangements to pick up several neighbours on my way to the polling station.

These poor folks have tried before but just cannot say no to me. lol

7. I lie back and think of England
Seriously, I always feel very patriotic and hopeful for the future when going to the polls. After I vote and am leaving the polls I'm just praying that enough other people voted my way.

9. I find the stories of the suffragists VERY moving still.
We take so much for granted. What they did for all of us is so amazing.

14. I can see the connection, I think...
First you recall the struggle of women suffragists...You make a point to recognize their sacrifices... Your mind lingers on the "women" part of the thought... You forget everything else. . . :P
