1. 32? You're "Young"
Edited on Wed May-26-04 03:47 PM by ribofunk
On Edit: Or, if you prefer, you're "in your prime."

A long time ago, I heard an elderly black carry on at length about how 35 was the perfect combination of ability and experience. Your 30's are a good time to be alive.

2. You are young.
I am young, sitting here staring 34 in the face...we are extremely, excruciatingly young. Yes we are.

Not so dirty, though.

The sex train pulled out of the station for me around 28 and I don't know where it went.

5. 32 is young. Very, very young.
I wish I was 32 again, but I let those years slip by practically un-noticed, sometime back in the 1970's.

7. What is 32?
Definitions of 32 on the Web:

being two more than thirty

You are young, because I am young, and I am older than you, and since I am older than you, you need to listen to me and respect your elders even though I am not old. OK

And I thought 41 was middle-aged... which of course, it ISN'T!!! (though technically, I guess it is)

Old is 15 years older than whatever I am. So, you're still, and will always be, young.

Actually, I missed the part of my life where I was exempt from that. I'm looking forward all misty-eyed to "too old to know the difference". ;)

24. How can that be when people are living longer nowadays?
If people are living until their 90s, then middle age is @ 45. Even if you live to 85, middle age would then be @ 42.

And I am mid-thirties, so I'm still "young" too! ;-)

Marketing demographics define "youth" as 18-35, don't they?

26. I base it on the following
1. I said so. This is probably the best reason.
2. My life expectancy at birth was 70, so 35 gets you half-way there.

In fact, if one would say life has three stages (youth, middle age and old) and they are co-equal in length, middle age would begin at 23.3 or so.

People do not like to think that they are middle aged or old. Kinda like most guys add a few inches to their height (I know my driver's license is a lie). However, the only possible consequence of not acknowledging one's age is to continue in foolishness not becoming of one who is older.

I readily admit I am middle aged. But I also admit I am foolish. As Terry Funk always said "I'm middle aged and crazy."

22. turning 30 was a big deal at the time
turning 40 wasn't quite so bad

just wait til 50 is the next thing you are looking at!

Enjoy your 30s! That is a really nice time when a lot of your plans, hard work and energy come into focus. And a time to really appreciate your individuality. I had to laugh several weeks ago when my son's teacher was saying she felt old at 25!

I still have about 16 months or so left on my "Them there in the media believe you don't vote so we here in the campaigns will try to appeal to you through hip-hop" contract. Then, with a sense of relief, I join you in thirtysomethingville.

25. I considered myself middle aged from thirty
30~40 is halfway through a typical lifespan. We call 50~60 year-olds "middle-aged", but they are in the early evening of life, 70s~80s are the twilight years.

I don't like to think about it, but it is important to be aware of one's mortality if one is to use his time wisely.

Mortality sucks, by the way. If I could transmogrify mortality into a living being, I would KICK THE CRAP out of it!
