OMG! Live version of Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" WOW
Just bought the CD tonight. I bought a copy for my nephew for Christmas, and we listened to about 15 minutes of it on New Year's Eve, but stopped it so we could watch the South Park Movie.

So I'm finally now getting to hear the whole thing.

HOLY WOW!

Now THAT is music!

1. I've not purchased the deluxe edition yet
I still listen to it on vinyl...I'm afraid I won't like it on CD...but I have heard the live version on the local jazz station late night.....I'll probably have to go get it at some point.

5. Yep, one more time!
And I don't know why, but the live version is ONLY being packaged with a remaster of the original studio version.

i don't know if the remastered studio version is available on its own, but if it is, then by all rights they should offer the live version as a separate CD as well, instead of the $28 two CD set.

6. Also on Live At Antibes 1965
unless of course that's what you're talking about. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000000JK6/102-3715058-1023319?v=glance My brother actually got it for me for the 20 minute version of "Impressions" included because I'd been raving tediously about Wes Montgomery's version. This is the only "Love Supreme" I've ever heard so I have nothing to compare it to, but it's, well, supreme.

7. Yeah, this is the live at Antibes "Love Supreme"
though it only has "A Love Supreme", and then a few outtakes of parts of it from elsewhere. No "Impressions" on this one.

This is the one:

3. The liner notes are great...
...supposedly the only live performance of the whole piece, and the announcer had to calm the audience by saying "it's the quality of the music, not the quantity" (because that's all 'Trane played at that gig).

Apparently some audience members felt ripped off.
