Got this email today...regarding car windows...don't know if it's true.
This message was forwarded to me by one of my friends from Allstate InsuranceCo. WINDOWS Please keep all windows rolled up when stopped at traffic lights, as only cars with windows down are being targeted. Groups of teenagers have been caught, in alarming numbers, playing a new and dangerous game called SPUNKBALL.
Spunkball consists of a group of teens in a car pulling up to a stoplight and looking around for a car stopped near by with
an open window. When one is spotted, the teens shout,
"SPUNKBALL", and throw a gasoline soaked rag that has been wrapped in aluminum foil through the open window.
On the outside of the foil is attached a small firecracker, with the fuse lit. When the firecracker explodes, it shreds the foil, and the rag is ignited. causing a large flame that may catch the interior of the car on
fire.
Spunkball playing has already claimed two lives, caused uncountable injuries due to burns, and caused thousands of dollars in damage to automobiles. The best defense, say authorities, is to keep all windows rolled up when stopped at traffic lights, as only cars with windows down are being targeted.
If you are at a red light and hear a shout of "SPUNKBALL", and notice something come flying in your window, the best thing to do is to have all passengers immediately exit the vehicle. DO NOT try to retrieve the object,as it will ignite once the firecracker explodes.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU CARE ABOUT and KEEP YOUR CAR WINDOWS SHUT (especially at a stop sign or traffic lights).

3. how to identify hoaxes
If it starts out "This was passed on to me by a friend" and ends with "Please forward to everyone you know", it's a hoax.

6. You do realise that in the UK "spunk" means something v. rude?
Errr.......

semen, jism, filthy yoghurt, jizz, etc.

Those young men would need to be on a hair trigger to be able to "spunkball" through your car window before the lights went to green!

8. If this were true, it would have been all over the nightly news
Not to mention that most of the spunkball players themselves would be hoist by their own petard, as the gasoline fumes would almost certainly ignite when they tried to light the firecracker.

12. The point about the fumes igniting is a good one. A Molotov cocktail is
"safer" in that regard because the rag plugs the bottle opening and keeps the fumes separate from the flame. But even then, I have no doubt that the perps sometimes screw up and burn themselves.

11. There are clues in these urban legends that should tip us off
First of all, nearly any forwarded email is suspect.
Second, note the lack of details that could be verified - dates, time, places, names of victims.
Also - Use of the vague "authorities" as to what to do about the situation. A warning based on a real news story would cite a real authority - a police chief, a sheriff, a police spokesperson, whatever.

13. If it were true it would be on the news.
The local Faux station here loves stories about teenagers running amok.

Amok, amok, amok.

14. And if you see a Presidential motorcade driving with its lights off...
Don't flash your headlights at them. They'll follow you home and kill you -- it's some kind of initiation thingie for junior members of the Bush Administration.

16. Like LSD-laced temp tats and the "don't flash your lights" crap...
Those actually made it home from school, courtesy of "Officer Friendly"..

Watch your kids carefully, in case they have a sheet of temporary tatoos with Mickey the Sorcerer on them. they're laced with LSD, and the pushers pass them out to get your kids "hooked"...

And if you see a car coming at you at night with no headlights? DON'T flick your high-beams at them, because it's a "gang initiation rite" and that car will turn around and chase you down and the occupants will open up on you with 10 Uzi machine guns...

This is happening a lot. Officer Friendly heard all about it at that $15,000 seminar the taxpayers paid for him to go to last month!

All bullshit.

Use "Snopes", it's your best defense, and then hit "reply all" and give them the link to the snopes page.
