Are high gas prices interferring with your holiday weekend?
I was invited to a barbeque this weekend.

Problem is, the host lives w-a-a-a-a-a-y across town, in Marietta, Georgia. I live in Stone Mountain, which is about 60+ miles round trip.

I filled up my gas tank yesterday morning, and after recovering from shock, told her I don't think I'll make it.

I'll fire up my own grill, and conserve my gas.

This sucks!!!!

1. No but I did consider buying a hybrid
a friend showed me his new Prius the other day and I really liked that car. I'd already decided that my next car was going to be a hybrid before the prices went up.

2. You live in Stone Mt. Georgia?
That's where Jake the Snake Roberts comes from!

The Big Bossman comes from Cobb County, GA.

Those places, plus Atlanta, are the only parts of Georgia I know of.

Thank for Vince McMahon, for teaching me geography! :D

4. Jake the Snake

Greatest wrestler of all time, in terms of a character and how he indulged himself in it.

Was totally believable as a sort of, cold-hearted, super intelligent psycho wrestler.

Who threw huge snakes over his opponents after he defeated them.

Was the only wrestler who made Andre the Giant quiver in his boots.

He was awesome!

8. I'm angry - because they've gone down...
Edited on Fri May-28-04 10:20 AM by HypnoToad
7 days ago it was $2.199 in St Paul.

I saw the prices dip on Tuesday to $2.079 - bought 3 gallons worth.

2 days later (yesterday) it was down to $2.019. As I'd taken a long trip, I bought 3 gallons more.

Everybody was saying "The prices are going to go up more for memorial day."

So why aren't they? Why have they been going DOWN all week? And not up? I was first happy the prices went down by a cool dime, but when everybody was hyping "They're going to go up", and they historically have, why are we getting what people will now see as a "steal of a deal"?!

http://www.startribune.com/stories/1513/4800443.html

``If they want to go, they are going to pay it,'' she said.

Just like sports, entertainment, you name it, people won't care - they will just accept the changes.

We're not a nation of people fighting for justice and freedom. We want our relaxation, at whatever the cost.

She also cited another AAA survey that found lodging and food costs have decreased by 4 percent since last year. ``It helps to offset what we pay at the pump,'' she said.

Gee, I've seen lodging rates go up. And food. :wtf:

12. $1.95 for unleaded plus now here in Central Tx.
I drive 52 miles a day to and from work. I have a 2000 F-150 pickup. It is affecting me.

17. Well, it's affecting me too, along with all of us, what's your point?
If we want regime change, then we need some hurt.

If we want a societal restructuring that's better for all of us, then at some point we're all going to have to hurt enough to push for it.

It's as simple as that, I can't stand it when people think that social change can happen with no alteration of the status quo. It is not going to happen that way.

Don't worry, peak oil will do it all for us in the end.

14. I was in Marietta on business and we had some downtime -
- a gap of three hours in the middle of the day when no business was scheduled. We asked about sightseeing, and the first suggestion we got was "The Big Chicken!" We dutifully stopped there so as not to offend our hosts, then went on to Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield Park. It was just beautiful, and also sad and moving.

13. $2.45 reg. unleaded just across the street.
Heck YEAH, it's changed my habits. And I drive a 98 Accord that gets 25 mpg so I don't have it nearly as bad as most people.

But just like the Southern California grocery strike that dragged on long enough for me to permanently change my grocery shopping habits, the gas prices are doing the same thing.

Last weekend, I parked my car on Friday and it didn't move again until going to work Monday morning. This weekend, more of the same. If I drive at all, it's because I have to, not because I want to and have anything fun planned.

15. You bet, I have a boat
And gas dock prices are up over $2.50 a gallon. My 454 burns about 12 gallons per hour at 24 mph, and about 28 gallons per hour, one every two minutes, at top speed. I tend to go slow and not far these days.
