1. I've never had one myself, but I've attended a couple...
there was norhing so dramatic as hiding-behind-furniture in a darkened room... but we were all in place when the guest of honor arrived. SURPRISE!

2. I figured it out
I figured it out about 20 minutes before the party started, so I count that as being surprised. It was one of the nicest things anyone ever did for me. I felt like a queen.

I gave my husband one shortly after I married him. He was totally surprised.

3. Yes, my freshman year at college.....
I turned 19. My family called and, while I was on the phone in the dormitory hall,, my friends got a twinkie with a candle, made an offbeat sign, rolled a few, and brought in a case of beer. When I returned to the room, I was totally blown away. They lit sparklers (I think we were already pretty loaded before the party started).

Never had one since though hope springs eternal!

4. Yes, after my 15th birthday
My birthday is two days after Christmas and many people forget it in the melee of the holiday season. So, that year, my friends at school got together with my mom and organized a party. I was completely shocked, and it was very fun.

5. My boyfriend had a surprise party for me on my 16th birthday.
I knew about it weeks before, but played along.
My friends & hubby planned one a few years ago & I was totally surprised.

6. Yes, and MAN was I surprised!
My buddies and me were walking Hadrian's Wall when we were on junior year abroad in Canterbury. I'd made the mistake of buying English shoes, so my feet were demolished by the end of the first day. Therefore I hitched to Newcastle and took the train back to Canterbury and was sure my friends would never make it in time for my birthday. However, they quick-marched, or something, and I think took the faster IC train and made it indeed. They also spiked my bitter ale with vodka; I was surprised about that, too.:D

9. yes, but I expected it.
Last year I was driving the cab wanting just a normal day. About 8pm I get a call from my mom who said I should come home. I ask why. She says because I'm having a party.

There went the quiet day.

10. I took part in organizing one
For my best friend leaving work. I had told everyone to bring something for a pot luck when he wasn't around. I brought around a card that I had everyone sign when he wasn't around. I told them not to tell him. I went to great lengths to hide this. Unfortunately, one of his other friends tipped him off both about the card and pot luck.

12. Weird that you asked this right now
My daughter has a surprise party for her in 1/2 hour. She refused to go to this friends house tonight because she is too tired. (She actually is very tired.) Her sister and I laid on the guilt about ignoring old friends in favor of new friends and are making her go. She is angry at both of us right now. ;-) I'm excited and thought about posting a thread. She thinks she's supposed to go at 6 but we've been told to delay until 6:30. She's soon to get angry at her sister for being late. LOL

I had a surprise party at 8. It's my favorite party memory. I also had a surprise wedding shower. I figured that one out but I had a blast.

I hate being surprised by a bunch of people in my house.

No matter how well-intended.

22. When I was sixteen…
My mom, dad and sister threw a surprise party for my birthday in early January. I had had chickenpox over the Christmas-New Year period and, since we usually travelled overseas during Christmas and were staying home this year, mum and dad felt sorry for me. My best friend also played an instrumental role in organizing the celebrations. We celebrated my birthday quietly on the day and subsequently my dad asked me whether I wanted to go to the library and borrow some books. Once at the library dad insisted on browsing for an exceedingly long period of time. Subsequently when I returned home I was walking past our family’s main living room when suddenly all my friends jumped out from behind the couch. It was a wonderful day and a wonderful feeling
