PA Man Robs Bank (Police: He Wanted to Buy Fiancé a Car)
May 28, 2004 — Police say a Columbia County man robbed a bank of nearly eight-thousand dollars yesterday so he could buy a car for his fiance.

About two hours after the robbery, 24-year-old Jeremiah Steinbacher walked out of his Montour Township home, clutching a wad of cash, to surrender to police who were waiting for him with raised handguns and handcuffs.

Steinbacher's fiance, Rebecca Plante, says her mother called 9-1-1 to summon police after Steinbacher agreed to turn himself in.

Steinbacher is a 1999 Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech graduate who played football for the Rams. According to arrest papers, he confessed to robbing the First National Bank. All of the money was recovered and no one was hurt.
