33 hours, 33 minutes smoke free!
So far, so good! This cold turkey thing is sooo much better than the patch! I feel generally fine, just hungry like a hippo. It's all good :P

2. GREAT WORK...inspirational....keep up the hard fight....go out for
a walk today, BREATHE DEEP....enjoy the fresh air...

then, keep your hand busy...like typing on a keyboard....

go ahead and EAT...it's so much better than cigarettes....you can alway undertake the 'loose weight' program after you're totally off cigs...at least 6 months....

cheers to your committment, your discipline, motivation and focus...

4. One day at a time, one hour at at time
That is the way to do it. Don't think about tomorrow or next week just concentrate on the moment and you may well succeed. That's how I did it. I marked the days off in a calendar. Eat lots of fruit and veggies. It leaves you satisified for longer than chips and empty caloried items.

5. smokers anonymous will help with maintenance
I stopped in 1995, July 4. Smokers's anonymous and a good sponsor helped me stay quit. It is hard when you get crazy. Having someone else to talk to who remembers that first day, first month, first year helps you get through the insanity....

Also, when I would get really strong urges....and the voices in my head would start....."I just want one" "I will not start again" "Just one please" and so on... and as I write this I can hear them start up.... constant yabbering...

so what I would do is remember, I didn't want one, I wanted a carton. I would say to myself, No, you don't want one, you want a carton.

And then I would stop, go for walk, go eat, something, because I knew those voices were not in my best interest. And I would have gained one more minute or one more hour or one more day of smoke free existence. The more distance I could put between me and that last smoke....always helped....

the urge sometimes comes back strong, I still use the same technique and I remember my first sponsor.... So get on the phone, find a smoker anonymous meeting. Use the internet. They are around. Usually at least once a week. Having someone to talk to who know the craziness that happens in your head is so helpful.

At least that is my story, and I am sticking with it :yourock:

9. Congrats!
I found that stopping alcohol was a cake walk for me compared to cigarettes. That smoke monkey on my back was hard to shake, but it can be done.

I carry a few pieces of the nicotine gum with me if I get the urge, it works for me.

10. Congrats!!! And keep up the good work... from someone who
lost both her parents to smoking related diseases. Both of them died about 15 years short of average life expectancy. Don't leave the people who love you too soon. If you think about smoking, remember that.
