"To Have and Have Not" was a great film.

Basically made from a Faulkner book on a bet between Howard Hawks and William Faulkner so that Howard could prove to William he could write screenplays. If the title isn't familiar, you might know the famous line that Bacall says to Bogey
" You know how to whistle don't you Steve ... you just put your lips together and ....... blow. "

Hoagy Carmichael Played the Piano
Lauren Bacall sang and made her screen Debut
Walter Brennan had a great part
Humphrey Bogart playing the cool but reluctant hero.

After Casablanca this movie is always a close second or
third favorite of all time here at the moofhut.
Anyone else really like this film a lot ?

Harry Morgan and his alcoholic sidekick,
Eddie, are based on the island of
Martinique and crew a boat available for
hire. However, since the second world war
is happening around them business is not
what it could be and after a customer who
owes them a large sum fails to pay they
are forced against their better judgement
to violate their preferred neutrality and to
take a job for the resistance transporting a
fugitive on the run from the Nazis to
Martinique. Through all this runs the stormy
relationship between Morgan and Marie
"Slim" Browning, a resistance sympathizer
and the sassy singer in the club where
Morgan spends most of his days.

1. Lauren at her best
I fell in love with that movie the first time I saw it.

I made sure that my Son got to see it and told him to remember it as a classic.....'cause it is!

Hoagy Carmichael is great in this movie. Oddly enough, I thought the weakest performance was Bogart but his personality is a wonderful foil for the others to play off of. Also the electricity between Bogart and Bacall is so thick you can cut it with a knife!

God I love that movie!!!!!
