2. They're excellent!

I'm from Upper Michigan, where they are like the regional food specialty.

Not exactly gourmet, but filling ang delicious.

They were originally prepared by miner's wives, for their husbands to
take into the mines with them and give sustenance all day.

The traditional fillings are steak, rutabaga, carrots, and potatoes.

There is a vegetarian option now, though.

And there is no condiment better than ketchup for those babies! :D

Col. K's in Menominee makes OK pasties, but you can't beat homemade!

They're also popular in the old lead mining regions of Southwest Wisconsin. Y'know with all the Cornish moving down there (and to the UP) for the mining jobs.

I'm in Cornwall where pasties originated and it is an offence punishable by death (well probably not) to put carrot in them. But i have no idea what rutabaga is.
