Cops in shinny conflict
CALGARY -- A man who called police to complain about young people playing street hockey was even angrier after officers picked up sticks and joined the game. "I was pretty choked," said Derek Salituri. "The teenagers ... were playing street hockey and they were smacking the ball off of my car and my wife's car."

Salituri said he feared for his private property and was upset about the loud music the six to eight teens were listening to.

He said one of the officers phoned to say the teens had been told "to be careful" and added that "if we were still concerned, to move the cars or talk to the kids ourselves."

NO-WIN SITUATION

A Calgary Police Service spokesman said the officers were put in a no-win situation in a hockey-mad city cheering on the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League final.

1. Damn right too
"Yes officer, these hooligans were accidentally hitting my car with their nasty ball. Please arrest them."

Good to see some common sense from the police.

5. In my neighborhood, there is a empty field that is common land owned
by the county. Kids used to get up impromtu games of soccer, baseball and football on that field.

And every time they did, the crochety old couple across the road from the field would call the sheriff's department and complain.

And every time the old crochets did that, the sheriff's department would send out an officer who would tell the kids to disperse.

My neighbor, (whose child was not one of those who played in the field) got royally ticked off about the situation, researched it, and found the that kids had a perfect right to play in that field.

So she started going down to the field everytime the sheriff's car would show up. The officer agreed that the kids had a right to play, but said that he was required to ask them to leave if there were complaints made.

The kids were to intimidated by the deputy's request that they leave to stay and their parents generally did not get involved or were not aware of the problem in the first place.

The end result is that the old crochets won. The kids don't even try to play there anymore.

By the way, the old crochets HATE kids. I always make sure that my kids honks his horn and rev's ups his little engine sound maker on his bike when we ride past their house. Just my little revenge...

Hmmm. Maybe I'll get the neighborhood kids together and we can plan a little prade around and round the block playing an assortment of a lap harp, two recorders, two bongo drums, a clarinet, a flute, morroccos, a tamborine and whatever other instruments I can find in the house...
